I've not fiddled with a 2 stroke before but i've got a kmx that I just got given to me. It started and rode fine on Sunday but I started it today and the oil light came on and then it cut out.

Checked oil and there was none, topped it up, tried to start and it still wouldn't. The bike has a dead battery but has always started regardless.

I was wondering whether someone could talk me through ways I could try and sort the problem?

Thanks

Sounds like it seized as you ran out of 2 stroke oil, usually the light comes on when its low but the sender may be duff on yours and came on too late.

Take it you mean you topped the 2 stroke oil tank up?

Will the engine turn over now?

Turns out it was fine, think I flooded it and it cleared overnight, took it for a good run to get it all cleared through

If the battery has had it, get a new one soon.
Cold weather finishes off failing batterys.

It's actually quite a new one then in KMX terms! Smile

My 200 is a 1988 E-plater, 20years old this year! I wish i had started the engine re-build 2.5years ago, as i have not yet separated the crankcase halfs, and had a look inside to see what is worn and needs replacing? I know the crankshaft assembly and all the bearings won't be a problem to replace, but i have heard that some gearbox parts are now unavailable new? I've been tempted to try and get hold of a cheap second engine from ebay/ bike breaker's to use for spares, but have always thought that the £50-100 it might cost would be better put towards brand new engine parts for my original lump!
