Battery dies after an hour!!

Dear all, can anyone advise me please.

I have just fitted a new battery to my bike. Charge it as per. After disconnecting the Optimate and putting the bike into service mode (datatool system 3) the battery dies after approx 1 hour. I was thinking of disconnecting the alarm and seeing what happens. Does anyone have any bright ideas??

You mean you ride the bike and the battery isn't getting charges and thus you are running total loss.....

Me doubts an alarm can drain a battery in an hour alone I managed 45 miles on total loss on my knackered battery...

Maybe you charging system is at fault , ie new reg/rec is it a Honda ?...

reg/recs are easy to change pull out the old one plug the new one in.

Hiya, Its a Gixer 750 and no the battery dies when left. I was washing it today, and after I'd finished was gunna run it, but when I turned the key there was nothing and I get a "CHECK" in the bottom right hand of my clock display. It's like there's a short or something. Dunno!

I'd check the voltage across the terminals when the engine is running.

Should be around 14-14.6v at 4k. 13-14v at idle. Higher than 15v points to reg rec. It will boil the acid away and reduces it's ability to hold a charge.

If you have an ampmeter capable of 10amps, you could check the current being drawn when the engine is off.

Have you got anything directly wired to the battery? I.e heated grips/cigarette socket anything?

and you're sure you didn't leave the ignition on when cleaning the bike the other day?

When it said "check".... did you assume it was the battery being flat or did you actually test it?

Could be a duff battery, had a couple over the years, check the voltage when its been disconnected from the bike.

Now I always buy AGM batteries and not had a single problem with them.
