Shocking bars !

No joke !, The ER-5 has shocking bars!, electric shocking bars
Christ it hurts, even through gloves you can notice it, and it's bad enough to make you want to take your hand off ( dad first noticed it) It only seems to do it on the throttle side though, I still can't see how you can get a shock through rubber grips (heated grips, but they weren't plugged in) , but what could be causing this ?
Would 12v be enough to cause much pain? , how many volts would be in the kill switch mechanism?

The only voltage you should "feel" on a bike if it gets you is the HT from a sparking plug etc. How on earth that could be coming up to the twist grip though
Try putting a voltage meter to earth (house water pipe)and have a poke about with the other lead and see what it shows up.
Warning... if it is the HT it will cook your meter.

Kill switch will be on the LT side ....12v although I suppose there could be some leakage or a nob had wired it from the HT side.

At a guess I'd say it's a short at the kill switch.

Thanks for the help guys, seems that the best thing to investigate first will be the HT side of the ignition then (it feels almost like a spark plug shock), just continuously, and not quite as bad.
The bike runs sort on though, still, will check everything over tomorrow. [/i]

Heated grip cable too close to HT lead is the only thing I can think of. I would have suggested throttle cable but most bikes have a plastic throttle tube.
