This might sound a little strange, but try sleeping with a pair of soft earplugs in (ie not the ones molded to your ear). I find it works wonders when I am having trouble sleeping.

Try having no caffeine after 6pm, no food after 8pm, and going to bed about 9pm, and read (fiction, not non-fiction) for about an hour.

Do you have too much on your mind at the moment to let yourself fall asleep? And out of interest, due to a theory I was told about recently, do you spend time on/in your bed doing things other than sleeping? If you lay on your bed on the phone, on a laptop, eating etc. then your mind begins to associate your bed with things other than sleep, which is not going to help your situation.

I think the problem is just getting into a bad routine and cos its what you always do you have got into the habit of going to bed 4am.

I find getting up early is a good way of being shattered in the evening if you have a busy day.

I wouldn't recommend sleeping pills, they make sleeping the next night harder in my experience. I have tried Kalms which are like herbal pills and they sort of make you want to go to bed but dont knock you out.

Sleeping pills are a quick fix.

I've got some Zopiclone, took one last night to help get me back into a decent sleep pattern. You can function so much better after a decent night sleep.

Even having taken a pill, I woke after 1 hr. But it was my mates baby burberling. .. so I got up, sorted him and went back to sleep.

I don't think they are the answer to a consistent problem, although a short course could put you back into a sensible pattern.

Worth trying the other things first:
No caffein in PM, healthy diet (not lots of sugar), excercise, reading, sex Wink, a few deep breaths lol

How long has this been going on for?

You've got pissed off with it, so presumably it has been going on for some time. Why have you suddenly decided you want them on a Sunday afternoon when everywhere is shut? If it's been going on for several weeks, you can wait a bit longer until tomorrow and make an appointment to see your GP about it (you can get an appointment within 48 hours - and if you feel that you need to see your GP urgently, you can take time off work on the sick to do it).

A word of caution - if you do get a prescription for zopiclone, go easy. They are very addictive. Also try breaking the pills you get in half, they're surprisingly effective.

Try also anti histamines - the drowsy kind. They knock me out for 6 hours then I wake up fresh, or night nurse liquid. Night nurse makes you sleepy, because it contains a fair dose of alcohol along with all the other stuff - it's about 20% alcohol, you take a dose equivalent to a shot.

Go to sainsburys or somewhere, and look for calming tablets, like kalms, or rescue remedy stuff, or stuff called 'quiet life' all herbal and natural, I take the quiet life tablets at the mo just because I am so stressed, helps me calm down a bit, and if you take 3 (says on the packet) they contain a very mild sedative, helps me sleep, but when I don't take them every day I still sleep ok, they just help when I really can't.
Also as said above, don't eat anything too late, or drink anything with stimulants in, and hours on the computer before you go to sleep doesn't help either!
I also listen to music when I go to sleep, stops me thinking 'oh but im not asleep yet, crap, i can't sleep' etc etc, it helps!
