How is derestricting an RS any different to any other restricted moped? Especially a TZR, since they're effectively the same. |

| Quote: | In some countries the mopeds are sold unrestricted, they are exactly the same as the UK peds.
No damage will be done to the moped unless the derestriction is done wrong or it is held at full revs/speed for very long periods of time. |
| Quote: | How is derestricting an RS any different to any other restricted moped? Especially a TZR, since they're effectively the same. |
I agree that SOME peds we find in the UK are ok to be derestirced, in theory.( I say in theory because they last much longer with one in!) But... as im sure you have noticed, the number of peds on the road has increased dramatically in the past few years, and presented an opportunity to the manufacturers to reduce the production costs of the peds. Knowing that most peds being sent to the UK would by law need to be restricted for use by the younger generation, and therefore would not have as much power and wear as their earlier models, they reduced the quality of the engine materials used to build the UK models.
As for why an RS, TZR and things like the derbi GRP are different, the restrictions are put in place after they reach the UK, and still have the higher build quality in the engine. I know from PAST experience that the RS is too heavy to not have the extra power, and is infact safer when derestricted. Pulling out on to a roundabout with a bus coming the other way is not fun when the revs die.... you might as well be on a hoover.[/quote] |

I doubt this would be the case.. relative to the worldwide market, the UK market is small fry, and it's probably not worth the manufacturer shutting down a productionline, retooling for different materials, dealing with a different supply of materials, and also holding a different stock, and ensuring there is no cross contamination. They would also have to pay the r&d dept to work out the specs of the new materials, and do extensive testing on the new engines and components. It would cost more to do all that, than it would to just send the same ones here.
While I can see your logic, in business terms it just doesn't cost out.

Sorry BM. I totally dont agree with you there. Mopeds arent JUST made for 16 year olds, alot of older people have been known to buy 50cc scooters or bikes and derestrict them, for a range or reasons from milage to cheap insurance. Also if companies were looking to skimp on money, it wouldent be to change the composition of the engines sent to the UK. As this would cost more money for them to run a completely different line to manufacture these engines. ____________________ Will work for petrol

in actual fact the TZR 50 is hevier than the RS 50,
scooters and peds should be de-restricted as it is much safer on the roads eg 40 limit scooter going 30 will slow trafic flow down and forse overtaking therefore, pushing the scoot into the gutter and an unsafe position,
as for pulling out onto roundabouts with busses in the equation thats a stupid idea, maybe wait till the bus has gone past???
also give the bike more revs and feed the cluch in 2t's need quite high revvs to get away
from my experience on a ped this is the best option living in an area with allot of 40, 50 and national speed limits this is what i did
companies dont doungrade parts for the uk this is stupid and would cost £££££'s
infact the small 2t's tend to run better de-ristricted as the bike is not being slowed down by a washer on the drum/cone in the zorst
hope this helps dont listen to BM and just dont keep ur throttle pinned all the time

wel said jon!! i agreee with everything you sed!!
i ride my bike to trainen and its a 40 limit all the way and its on a slight hill im strugling to get 25-27 out of the TZR,
i keep pulling over leaving cars past, it gets that bad, if you know wat i mean!!
its really embaresing and dangerous!!
im not goin on it now until ive have the new jets and exhaust shwd be a little nippier then!! lol!! ____________________

Ahhh Simple! An RX50! Brilliant bikes they are! And yes, both bikes run on the EXACT same engine, both AM6 models. Though im not entirely sure how they switch about the starting method for each bike! Could you possibly have a look around the RS, and have a look how the temprature gauge is hooked up? Im thinking of fitting one to my RX.
Cheers,

50cc's arnet just for 16 yr olds!
When i done my CBT test just before christmas there was another person doing the test with me and he was 18-19!!
i thought you could do straight 125cc test once ur 17?? maybe not! any case that proves 50cc's arnet just for 16 yr olds!! ____________________

Looks like a smashing bike Simple! Did you get paid out on insurance or did you ever find out who done it? Im not exactly sure what year my RX is, its on an 05 plate, but im pretty sure its the 2004 or earlier model. The thing that scares me is that its not insured right now at all. But theres more security down there than in fort knox! I would have been gutted if i were you! And Golf, the CBT covers 125cc bikes aswell, you just need to be over 17 in order to upgrade to a 125cc! Also see the bikepics page in my sig for pics of my RX! ____________________ Will work for petrol
