I was toying with the idea of stubby this can as its a bit to long for my 400 gixer,

now here's the thing is it as easy as it looks-

1) drill out rivets
2) remove end
3) cut to required length ( nice and straight of course )
4) replace end
5) redrill holes for rivets
6) rivet in place job done,

is it that easy, anyone done one before ??

Pretty much. Don't forget about the baffle, if it has one.

If its a real carbon can then you need to note that carbon fibre can splinter easily, the only way to cut it by hand is to use a fine tooth saw blade.

the inner baffle (perforated tube) will need shortening aswell, if it straight through.

im sure your right on that one,

would i be right in thinking the can is made from a carbon tube the baffle through middle and it's hollow inside and the 2 ends hold the tubes in place

Couldn't give you a definite answer, but i'd have thought so. Hopefully someone will come along shortly and enlighten us both!

ive just done 2 stubby cans, both of which came out pretty well... eventually.

the first was a twin outlet ART titanium can, sawed it in half. as i was shortening the bottom half, i had to pull out the innards, cut them down, then put it back.
in the end, i put it on, and it was as quiet as the stock can!!
looked down the end and all the packing had gayed up, and come out and into the can.

a few backfires and a MASSIVE cloud of fibreglass later, it was all clear, and as noisey as no can Cool

second one i did was a yoshi carbon fibre one that i shortened by 2" to get rid of the worn out bit at the bottom from various crashes, that one i measured properly, and made sure the inner was guided properly through the packing at the end.
no problems Thumbs Up (or pictures at the mo)

just take your time basically, and think about what your doing.

your can, can be shortened reasonably simply but you have to take your time and think about what you are doing ...

first off drill all the rivets out of both ends (might be better grinding the heads off and punching the remains out), then pull the caps off/out, the one cap should remove complete with the perforated tube ...

you may be able to remove the packing from the sleeve as well...

decide how much you want to shorten the can by and carefully cut the sleeve down (big jubilee clip around the sleeve to guide your cut), a dremell with cutting discs will cut it nicely (take your time)....

now you cut EXACTLY the same length off the perforated tube....

carefully cut the packing down to suit (very carefully)...

slip it all back together carefully...

now you are looking at drilling and rerivetting it, you'll want stainless steel blind rivets (3.5mm i think)if you use ally rivets you run the risk of it vibrating to pieces pretty quickly and turning into scrap...

take your time, look at what you're doing and you should get good results
