Fine and 3 points...do I lump it or do I fight?

I got stopped for waiting in a bicycle-only box at traffic lights.
I was given a brief lecture, agreed with the offence.
I did not read the ticket I received at the time.
Offence traffic junction violation.
Asked to produce my docs at the local station.
Fine!
Now I have just come back from the police station and the offence/ticket states Traffic Light Violation. Code
The lady stated this is for running a red light????????????????
...and 3 points will also be added.
So do I fight this or lump it?
I am not happy!!!

Fight it, all the way. Then appeal it if you lose. If you still lose, go out and do at least a grand's worth of damage to state property.

The only way to fight this kind of nazi BS is by direct miltant action.

Take a stand. If you're not prepared to do that, STFU, bend over and take it. It's as simple as that.

By using that area you have, legally speaking, jumped the red light. Not a hope you would win by taking it to court, you would just increase the fine and add costs.

If it was local cops they make mistakes all the time with traffic tickets, I got off with one once that was 6 points and £200 penalty, they put the wrong violation on the form and like I say I saw a lawyer and it was dropped, If its the traffic cops then chances are they got it right, speak to a lawyer its free for a first consultation I believe, good luck

Advanced stop lines. Some signal-controlled junctions have advanced stop lines to allow cycles to be positioned ahead of other traffic. Motorists, including motorcyclists, MUST stop at the first white line reached if the lights are amber or red and should avoid blocking the way or encroaching on the marked area at other times, e.g. if the junction ahead is blocked. If your vehicle has proceeded over the first white line at the time that the signal goes red, you MUST stop at the second white line, even if your vehicle is in the marked area. Allow cyclists time and space to move off when the green signal shows.

Also check that the marking is correct as per Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002, Diagram 1001.2.

Some I've seen haven't got a cycle lane leading into the cycle reservoire, which is a requirement.

Also some have no solid line joining the first and second stop lines.

Both of these make the cycle reservoir non compliant and technically unenforceable.

If there is no proper stopline, then the traffic signal post becomes the presumed stopline (for example at temporary signals or when the road is being resurfaced) which is of course in front of the cycle stopline.

From the regs below, note the undelined bit (my addition)

13. All vehicles are required to stop at any stop line when a red signal is showing, or, if they
can safely stop, an amber one. If an ASL is provided, all vehicles must stop at the

second stop line if they have already passed the first when the signal changes to red.

All ASL layouts are required to have an approach cycle lane, whether advisory or
mandatory. If a red signal is showing, pedal cyclists may only enter the reservoir ahead
of the first stop line via the cycle lane. They may not do so by crossing the stop line.
Traffic authorities need to provide layouts that allow pedal cyclists to access the
reservoir via the cycle lane without being obstructed by other vehicles. The cycle lane
should be long enough for cyclists to bypass the queue of motor vehicles without
weaving. An advisory approach lane can be indicated by use of the markings to
diagrams 1057 and 1004 or 1004.1, without an upright sign to diagram 967.
