Has this happened to you? It did to me! The station wouldn't even turn the pump on until I took my helmet off! The whole of the forecourt looked at me like I was a suicide bomber! Lets fight it and stop using these stations! Add your story to www.petrolstationstoavoid.co.uk

Flip the finger to the pump-jockey, drop the hose on the floor and ride off to the next station.

Thumbs Up

It's more common than you might think. Just do what Bazza said, dump the nozzel on the floor and go somewhere else for your petrol - it's them that are loosing money.

Thing is its also for safety also, having your visor down , stops any chance of any bits of spray hit you in the eyes.

I'm taking it off in order to pay (its called 'manners') so it makes no odds to me if I take it off before or after actually filling up.

Or you can just take your helmet off adding and extra 20 seconds to your filling up time instead of wasting time going to another petrol station in some kind of 1 man protest, the petrol station really don’t care if they loose a few customers from a minority group of road users who generally don’t even spend that much when they do fill up.

Some of you people seem to take this subject far too personally, the people working at the petrol stations are only following company policy.

Hi

It is the reason I no longer use Tesco (for shopping or fuel).

MRX Steve wrote:

A lot more than 20 seconds, add getting rain drops onto glasses, displacing ear plugs and finding somewhere safe to put the lid (and someone on BCF a while ago put their lid on the ground to fill up with fuel only to have a car hit it).

Maybe not, but they might care that I won't go there in the car either and ill not buy any goods from that supermarket either.

It is not personal against the people working there, it is a "get stuffed" to the company policy.

All the best

That's useless though. It's like crimewatch, all well and good getting their face on camera but unless someone's seen them they won't get caught.......

They got your reg number there fore your address via DVLA so its no big deal really.

.....whereas if they have your plate, like Yokogeri says they can contact the DVLA and go from there.

Either way I'm guessing that's irrelevant seeing as most (if not all) bikers on here are good honest people who just want fuel with no hassle. It may be an inconvenience taking your lid off, but it's for everyone's security Confused

So im sad tosser because I take my helmet off instead of making a big deal riding of giving them the finger ... Rolling Eyes

Yes it may be the case that the ones they do are trying to exercise the small amount of authority they have, but so what if they do? I just fail to see the point in getting so worked up over some thing so small and taking it as such an insult, so much so that you have to leave and find some where else to fill up wasting even more of your own time. I guess i just dont get worked up over things as much as you do Confused

If its a particularly hot day, I cant be arsed taking my lid on and off, because I get in a fuddle with my hair etc. But if I do have to, then I take soooooo damn long getting my lid back on that it completely winds up and holds up the other people in the queue.

I usually try to use pay at the pump's if possible, to avoid this altogether.

It's always dry next to the pumps, didn't you notice the big fucking awning over your head? Laughing

If the WEATHER IN GENERAL is dry... Not the forecourt.

It's very very rare that I don't take my helmet off when I stop for fuel. I suppose I take it off out of habit.

The times I've left it on and have then had to queue to pay I've become hot and bothered and have been quite flustered when getting back on my bike.

I'm happy to take it off.

Never really seen it as a big problem myself, though never been refused petrol either.

One possibly answer to 'why' is so that they catch your face on CCTV as well - a bike or numberplate could easily be stolen. In a car you would get the driver's face on CCTV.
Though whether they'd do anything with it is another matter.

Flip up lids are your friend. Thumbs Up Never had any bother.

And if I was asked to take it off, I'd just find the next petrol station. Making a fuss over the matter is just silly.

I just fill up (at Tesco's funnily enough) with my lid on, and then always take it off when going in to pay.

Never had any problems.

In the summer months I prefer to take my lid off anyway. Gets too hot in there without the wind to cool me down, so I tend to bang it on top of the pump and fill up still sitting on the bike. Haven't had a problem, I occasionally do it without taking my lid off if I'm going to be really quick. In which case, I go to a pump the other side of the windows so they can't see me properly, fill up £10, get a £10 note out, walk in, say my number and put it on the counter with a quick 'thank you'. If they want to kick up a fuss they don't have a chance now, do they? Laughing

Tescos in Bidston let me fill up with my lid on then when i was stood in front of the counter waving a 20 quid note in front of them she said i had to take my helmet off first,
needless to say I went on one using a few F words i held up the queue for a little while whislt i farted about with my D loops, complaining that i was handing her a 20 and the fuel was 8 quid, sodding muppets,
What makes me laugh about this is that they use a "pay at the pump" system where you can bung a credid or debit card into the pump and you can fill up to 60 quid then drive away,
Now forgive me if im wrong but isnt that a bit dumb as you dont need to enter any pin number. any pikiey with someone elses card can fill up in no time and wizz off in his stolen nova.

I usually manage to avoid having to take my lid off most of the time but then I usually fill up at the bp just down the road from me or morrisons.
never done the drop the pump on the floor and ride off though, I find that just a little too stupid due to health and safety reasons.

I noticed recently in Spain removing your lid is much easier because most stations are kept spotlessly clean. Here my lid isn't going anywhere near those manky pumps.

I think they still have to have the cashier 'authorise' it - this being the case they may only allow them to fill up once they have their face on CCTV.

Company policy my arse, I don't have to ask anyone to take lid off. A few people at my work complain that people don't take it off. So I explain that it's much easier and faster to keep it on. Now they see my point and don't complain about it anymore.

The petrol stations want people in and out of their fuel stations as quickly as possible, so quick turnaround means more cash, so this idea of taking lid off completely defies that theory.
