This is doing the rounds and I thought I would pass it on. I reckon it has a chance of success too. Laughing

Quote:
The plan is fairly simple. From now until Sunday download a copy of Rick Astleys hit "Never Gonna Give You Up" from any dedicated music download website, such as play.com, iTunes, hmv etc. It costs just 79 pence on iTunes and has got to be worth it just to stop that talentless load of shite xfactor from getting another Christmas number one.

Only two download per PC will be counted via the music charts when the winner is announced for the Christmas number one. With over 55,000 facebook members registered on the "lets rick roll Christmas" group its more than possible that we can put a dampener on Cowells money making machine this christmas.

Surely I should be paid for downloading the tune? Good job I really don't give a toss about who is "number one", at Christmas or any other time of the year.

Rick rolls aren't funny and never have been funny and got even less funny when they locked up most peoples PCs destroying work , massive downloads and such like, and why should I PAY for something I hate?

Can't really call her talentless either. The songs she is being made to sing may not be to everyone's taste, but she's still got a heck of voice on her.

Also, just because Rick gets to number one (unlikely because I've seen this poosted on a few forums and it is always shot down) doesn't mean she wil be selling less singles, so can't really see the point in it myself.

If you've got nowt better to do with your money why not send it to Rick directly - or give the 79p to charity.

Because you hate the X-Factor more? Very Happy

If he gets a number one and it goes to his head making him think he's popular then there could be an epic downfall to laugh at aswell.

Why not just mass-download Jeff Buckley's far superior version instead?

Stop the X Factor nonsense, AND have a decent song and artist get the top spot at the same time?

Heard it suggested by a DJ on Planet Rock, but a simple Google finds this:

https://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/theampersand/archive/2008/12/15/a-secret-chord-jeff-buckley-leonard-cohen-fans-unite-to-keep-reality-show-version-of-hallelujah-off-british-chart.aspx

Yes, Ignore Rick 'has-been' Astley and d/l the Jeff Buckley version of Hallelujah instead. Although a very worthy campaign it's probably doomed to failure against the massive amounts of X Factor plankton that would buy the single even if it was a fart recorded in a bean tin!

It's pretty sad now that every year we can guarantee that it will be an xfactor twat at number 1 in the chart.

It was so obvious she was going to win from about 3-4 weeks ago, all the judges were seriously kissing her arse!

+ she gets Beyonce as a singing partner, and the others get Boyzone and some other poncy boy bad!!! This was such a fix its unbelieveable!!!

I'd rather see Rick Astley at number one than any xfactor wannabe! Middle Finger

I went to a Neil Young concert in Kent in the summer (outside) and it was seriously pissing down all day, I am talking horizontal rain. Rufus Wainwright came on and sung this song accompanied by his piano only. As soon as he hit the chorus and sang 'Hallelujah' the rain stopped, clouds broke and the sun came out. It was a very surreal moment (I am not religious btw)!

I went to a Slayer concert in Dublin in a summer and it was sunny as hell all day, roasting hot. As soon as they started to play Raining Blood it started to piss down then stopped as soon as they finished their set. Coincidence?

We should have a proper old school style Christmas number one.

Download or buy Little Drummer Boy by Terry Wogan and Aled Jones. It's better than the usual tat that gets the Christmas spot.

Embarassed

Errrr, well truth is, the wife was watching it and I was in the same room (3 weeks in a row!). These sort of programs just get me annoyed and I end up shouting at the tele, then being sent out of the room so she can watch it in peace!! Laughing

Thumbs Up

You are all completely wrong.

If you want to make a mockery of the charts, x-factor or whatever, then you would simply want to get "Jizz in my pants" to number 1.

dont see the big deal tbh, their both good versions of the song and you can't say that this Alexandras one is rubbish. They both have talent at the end of the day and Hallelujah has been covered A LOT of times.

I think people want to 'boycott' it because they are jealous that someone has a talent (in this case singing) that they do not have. People hate seeing others succeed and this is a prime example, some want her to fail so she doesn't get anywhere. Getting into the music industry is very hard especially as a solo singer, x factor is just a way for people to get in and i don't see the big controversy about it.
