Ok so I have an old 1983 Honda CL250, she starts up and ticks over lovely - but when you crank the throttle open and give her a bit of sharp revs the engine dies? and I have no idea why this would happen?

Cheers in advance for any responses

Carb(s) off and clean them. She is getting nothing through the main jet.

Petrol for general carb cleaning. If you really wanna splah out you can buy "carb cleaner" from most auto shops.

Watch out tho because some rubber seals and gaskets etc really dont get on with carb cleaner, so remove as a precaution.

What you must never do tho is "clean" jets by poking stuff up them!!

The brass jets are precision machined and poking stuff (wire) up them will enlarge them, thus changing your carbs jetting.

Best way to clean them is blow through all the jets and air passages with an airline from a compressor.

Failing this, the end of a bicycle pump adaptor over the jet and a quick pump will work as well.

Happy cleaning,

Rich

PS, if you have a slide carb make sure you put the slide back in the right way round!!

That, and if the bike's been stood for a while it might also be degraded fuel or a bit of water in the tank.
