I want to get my lad a bike but he's just not interested.

Me an the missus took him to a bike shop in northwich a couple of months ago to look at bikes pw50's and the like, but he didn't want one i dont know if it because he was scared or not, because he likes watching me on mine and likes bikes in general, but he refuses to get on one of his own, he will sit on mine but only if its not started.

any ideas, as its his birthday soon and i would like him to have one but i dont want to waste money on one if he is not going to want to use it.

cheers

He doesn't want one. Find something he does want.

I don't mean to be funny but I've seen kids get tons of sh1t they don't want but the Dads' and relatives do. "I never got one so they will" etc. I'm guessin' your lad is about 4yo, there's plenty of time for him to get ito bikes. If that's what he wants. Karma

tbh not real sure why you feel the need to force the subject. Ihe he wants one down the road and is ready I'm sure he will let you know.

Noting worse than being a kid and getting some preset you just didn't even want.
Chances are what ever he want will be cheaper than the bike anyway .

You are in Northwich. Bring your lad to the Thundersprint in May and let him watch me smear myself down the middle of the track.
That will turn him onto bikes.

How old is he?

If he is very young it may take a while before he feels comfortable around bikes.

Dont force him.

He's a little too young at the moment. Give him a couple of years...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Get an electric one for him first, I bet its the noise that he doesn't like!

My nipper was the same at that age, liked sitting on the bike but never wanted me to start it while she was sitting on it.

Thumbs Up

Yep even the awesome monkey was too scary when the engine was ticking over for my 5 year old.

Remote control bike? They do them in the usual gadget/boys toys shops.

I just used to get Damo my nephew to sit on my bike, with me, and reach forwards for the controls. Eventually he started wanted to sit on it while it was running. Took a while though.

My friend has 6 kids (she had my quota! Rolling Eyes ) and they all started out on a little quad bike before they got into bikes and now cars. I think the little ones just wanted to copy their older brothers and sister whereas the first one, Tom was much more nervous to start with, but he's always been the most sensible and is very much the perfectionist - likes to really understand how it all works. Perhaps your little lad would be happier in the garage watching it all being taken apart and put back together first?

Neighbours here started their littlest on a quad bike too - funny to watch him as the helmet is twice the size of him but he grins from ear to ear when he's whizzin' about!!

We always loved going to watch any motorsports when we were kids - banger racing was my brother's favourite, I liked the MotoX and Rally stuff! Watching Mr Ariel would be a top day out!! Laughing
