Hi,

I have just passed my full licence but on a restricted licence, im only 19 but i can't decide what bike to go for.
I have been riding for more than 2 years on a cbt and im not exactly a big girl so don't want anything i am likely to drop because it is too bulky and heavy.

I have been looking at CBR 600s and R6s mostly as i have always had faired bikes, so if anyone could give me any advice, or alternatively if anyone has a CBR or R6 they are looking to get rid of that is cheap that would be good as its my 1st big bike.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Dani

Both wouldn't be the best choice, they won't take restriction very well due to the power being higher up in the rev range.

Try looking at a Suzuki SV - has a fairing and a V-twin engine so power restricted will be better.

Or, have a look at a Yamaha MT-03 as the restrictor will make little difference to it, as all the power is really low down....but it doesn't have a fairing.

Basically, sportsbikes ARE useable on restricted licenses, but don't take restrictors very well.....so you could use an R6/CBR perfectly well, you'd probably do better on a less sporty bike!

Doesn't sound like you need any advice to be honest.

Big heavy bikes shouldn't be daunting to you. Handling them correctly is all about your technique. I learnt the best way of handling my bikes by wheeling them about the place on all sorts of surfaces. Would even lay the bike down on a mattress and figure out the easiest way to pick it up. And I ain't exactly a muscle machine. Laughing If you have any biker friends near you, ask them if you can 'man-handle' their bike with their close supervision to give you some confidence.

I agree wih learning technique.

I'm 6'2", 14stone, when I got my CB500 I couldn't for the life of me get the bike on the centre stand, it felt like it weighed a ton, then, one day, I got the technique, it's a piece of piss now Smile it's easy to make life difficult for yourself if you do it wrong, and it all comes easy when you get it right.

I don't think either takes restriction too badly. They are too highly geared for 33hp, but only really feel that bad when you've ridden the original; people that have only had them at 33hp seem to think they're fine. In the end 33hp is 33hp however you get it Smile.

The R6 is fairly tall, think CBR is a little better. You could look at lowering the seat.
On the SV, I think a TRX850 (slightly more power than an SV, less than a 600 unrestricted) is a good choice as it's fairly low and thin as well.

If you are going to stick with it restricted, the CBR400 makes a good choice as it's light and low.

Or, of course you could just buy a bike with already scratched fairings, so you don't care if you drop it Smile.

There are quite a few bike to chose from. Depends on your budget?

A few people go for sports 400's after passing, how ever they are mainly over priced, but are faired. If you are keeping your restrictors in instead of them magically falling out, i would go for something that will take well to restritors like SV 650, CB500. Anouther thing to consider is the price of fairing if you drop either a CBR or an R6 as it can get quite expencive for a minor slip.

Thank you all for your suggestions but i just brought a CBR 600 today...got pressured into it and at price i could not turn down Very Happy

I had a sit on it and a push around and was quite surprised on how light it felt, i had got it into my head that it was going to be megga heavy and i wouldn't be able to get it off the stand.

Oh i have a good feeling about 2009, new year new bike Very Happy

And zxrmike26 no that is me on the right.

Nice one.

Remember, bikes are very light rubber side down Wink Try and man handle it, and it will be very stubborn, but move it around the way it's meant to be, it'll be a breeze Smile

Only problem is it has pink decals and if you know me you know pink is so not my colour. Might change them to blue, then they would match my lid.

I seem to remember you posting somewhere about living in the Herts area? If so you can always PM Big_Ham as he's there and rides a CBR6F.

He's also not pervy like zxrmike Laughing

At least... I don't think he is Thinking

Enjoy the bike. Also, the best form of restriction is your hand Wink

I'm not sure it's 'perverted' ... just rather desperate! Smile

Waving your hand at the police won't help so much when they ask about restriction... but fluttering eye-lashes often does for the fairer sex!
