sounds like a sticking linkage in the carbs or maybe a frayed throttle cable wd40 on the carb linkages and check smoothness of the throttle visibly at the carbs
check the condition and tightness of the inlet manifold rubbers too as mentioned as a lean mixture can have this effect too  |

ZXR clutches are hydraulic.
The clutch problem may be related.
If you pull the clutch between gear changes and the revs are staying high, it could be that the clutch is not fully engaging when pulled, and still driving the gearbox and therefore keeping the engine rev's high!? - I say could be!!
Do you notice it hard to get into gear, or very clunky changes?

now you have finally got round to telling us the clutch is either buggered or seriously out of adjustment sort that and see what happens (the engine revs wont die down if the clutch does not disengage)  |
