Hey guys, a problem that has been happening for a while (hard to pin point when it started) is that when I really gun it from low speed and gear when it gets to the high revs and requires a gear change,

I change then it goes into the next gear but the rev's do not drop hardly at all (compared to what it used to be like) also you don't get that audible change to denote the gears changed up either.

Almost like a high revving 2stroke.

And almost like the clutch is slipping, As it only happens when it's been pushed hard from low gears up through the box it does point me towards time for new clutch plates.

Any ideas?

Kind regards.

Air leak on the intake somewhere.

More than likely a split in the carb rubber.

OR...

A sticking throttle

Thumbs Up

I'll be sure to check those out and not something I would of related with the symptoms. Thumbs Up

Incidently it did have a scott oiler that was unfunctional when I got it and the tube that connects the scott oiler to the intake manifold had come out causeing a leanout on the first cylinder.

Never knew until I balanced the carbs and noticed. Stuck a correct size bolt and washer in there. Regardless that was a LONG time ago and it was fine a long while after that just wanted to share the story. Confused

sounds like a sticking linkage in the carbs or maybe a frayed throttle cable wd40 on the carb linkages and check smoothness of the throttle visibly at the carbs

check the condition and tightness of the inlet manifold rubbers too as mentioned as a lean mixture can have this effect too Thumbs Up

Also this could be related, the behavior of the clutch has changed.

Whilst it used to bite just past midway of letting out the lever now its right at the end, I only have to touch it lightly to initiate a gear change now, which is kind of cool but can't be right?

Fluid and usual suspects are fine so don't know if it is related to this.

if your clutch is actuated by cable rather than hydraulics then i'd suggest adjusting it before spending any money ...

cable clutches often require loosening of the cable, then the setting of the actuator, then setting the cable with the correct adjustments....

it sounds to me like your clutch mech' is "riding" the plates, causing them to slip rather than anything to do with the carbs, if it was the carbs then you'd find the revs wouldn't drop at standstill once revved up

ZXR clutches are hydraulic.

The clutch problem may be related.

If you pull the clutch between gear changes and the revs are staying high, it could be that the clutch is not fully engaging when pulled, and still driving the gearbox and therefore keeping the engine rev's high!? - I say could be!! Wink

Do you notice it hard to get into gear, or very clunky changes?

Thumbs Up

now you have finally got round to telling us the clutch is either buggered or seriously out of adjustment sort that and see what happens (the engine revs wont die down if the clutch does not disengage) Rolling Eyes

Tbh Only remembered today when riding home.

Gear changes are clunky and some pulling away has been troublesome lately as it's been biting right at the end and not where expected as I said.

On another point weathers been better today for riding, very mild and pretty dry around here. Actually looking forward to riding to work again without the numb hands, cold tyres and cautious corners for fear of ice.

How have you guys found it?
