What you want is a shoulder check to the left, shoulder check to the right then pull away. Just before you turn in, make a lifesaver over your right shoulder and turn in one smooth action finishing close to the kerb at the opposite point to where you started. ____________________ 1980 Suzuki TS50 ~ 1984 Honda CB400N ~ 1992 Triumph Trident ~ 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200 |

No speed limit as such, i'd just take it as slow as you are comfortable with to show that you are giving awareness to things around you and not just trying to quickly ride it. Obviously not slow enough for your feet to come down Try it on different roads, different surfaces and widths. It's probably one of the easier parts of the test i found, but can be tricky if you haven't quite got it. Find a good combination of the back brake, throttle and clutch and you will master it! ____________________ 1980 Suzuki TS50 ~ 1984 Honda CB400N ~ 1992 Triumph Trident ~ 1998 Suzuki Bandit 1200 |

Interesting, where did you learn that?
I'm an instructor, there may be variances in technique, but there are a few things wrong with this.
Most importantly, you never do a lifesaver without also checking your mirrors. Its mirrors and lifesaver - one cohesive motion. A lifesaver with no mirror check only gives you part of the story. You'll miss the car that's about to kill you because it's outside your lifesaver field of vision.
Secondly, why do a shoulder check to the left when you're stationary at the curb and about to move away from it? Only check to the right, where relevant things may be. Once before you move, once after a few meters just before you turn in.
Slip the clutch, keep the revs up, keep the transmission under tension at all times. Use back brake if required. ____________________ Yamaha SZR660 Caution to the wind, the throttle pinned! |
