Just wondering how many of you guys are registered as organ donors or carry a card? I'm sure you've all heard that doctors refer to motorcyclists as organ donors anyway Rolling Eyes I'm not one of these people that thinks motorbike=spectacular and fiery entrance to an early grave but our odds are higher than the average person so I think it's important.

To get signed up you can go here https://www.uktransplant.org.uk/ukt/how_to_become_a_donor/how_to_become_a_donor.jsp

The way I see it, if you have no moral or religious objections to your bits and bobs being removed then there's no reason not to, in fact I think it's a total waste especially if you are young and healthy (though I'm not sure what use my liver might be to anyone Laughing ).

...and no, I don't work for the NHS Very Happy I just brought this up because an awful lot of people die who would have had no objection to donation but never thought to mention it to anyone or sign up before they died.

I personally find it a bit wrong, but maybe thats just me, there going to be basically stealing everything from me before they put me in my box, why bother there aint going to be much left after they finish with all this new technology of face transplant etc..

Just follow that link, it takes literally 20 seconds, it's just your name and address. I promise the NHS won't turn up half an hour later with a scalpel and a cool box Shocked

yup i'm an organ donor and have been for a while now. I have seen the benefits of someone getting a transplant and how it can help to transform their life.

Lets be honest you aint gonna be needing em when your gone so if someone else can benifit and have a few extra years, then sure i have no problems with them using my part Smile

If i'm being honest i think its a tad selfish for those who dont, but thats just my opinion and no doubt others will disagree with me

Don't forget to donate your brain too...

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7813114.stm

I draw the line at donating my body to science, I don't like the idea of my meat and two veg showing up at a medical student's party.

i'm not a donor, and dont really want to be. my mum doesnt share my view and im not too sure abut my father. but i want to be buried/burnt/lost/whatever happens to me as i end. if that's a bike accident of some sort then like that - maybe even in my leathers please!!

i dont suppose i have anything majorly against being a donor - i just dont want to ... everyone is entitled to feel how they want. and i tink those who do wish to be donors are great people, but that doesnt change my personal views.

but. unlike many, i would be pretty reluctant to get given a donor's organ if i needed one even in a life or death situation .... let me go, because i wasnt planning on doning so i dont deserve one. though, under some circumstances, wife and young kids, house and bills etc etc - if i felt it REALLY would be too selfish to die and not live, then i would take the donor organ - and become a donor myself then too. what's fair is fair. if i say no then i dont deserve, if it's best i get then i will try and repay that later on.

however still, i would consider being a donor for a good friend/family member whilst i am alive - that's different in my view, should some one i care about need it.

that's wrong. simply wrong.

im not racist and i dont think foreigners should get a raw deal here maybe .... but they do get our benefits, houses, jobs and our own government and employers are racist to us and not them in fear of being sued - so i dont think they deserve our organs too. and if i was a donor, then i'd take myself off the list having read some of that. they have their own countires, governements, hositals and donors to get things from - not ours.

I am not. The thought of someone cutting me up whilest I am still warm from a bike crash really doesn't appeal to me. They are my organs, get your own. Razz

I am. I'd rather have someone perhaps benefit from my mortal remains than it all goes up in smoke.

Too add, I have had the extreme privilage of having benefited from someone's selfless decision to give their body to medical science (twice) and the knowledge I gained from it was worth more than the knowledge gained form reading 100 textbooks.

I don't for a minute criticise anyone who decides not to donate, however I do criticise those who haven't talked about it to those close to them. I know it's not an easy topic to think about when we are healthy, however I know (from personal experience) that it's a lot harder to discuss after the inevitable has happened...

Cheers, Stu

Nope with all the storys of organs being sold overseas they can piss off all my organs belong to me. This country screws us over enough now they want to profit from us when we die.

Used to give blood but after finding out from a reliable source that a lot of it is SOLD to private hospitals they can fuck right off. They want my blood they can pay me for it.

I have had blood in the past and have gave back a lot more than i took. So the way i see it were even.

I also have the fear that if im seriously hurt and have a very slim chance of survival and two people on the ward need transplants they may not do everything they can to save me. One dies two live sort of thing Shocked

I registered online about a month or two ago but I'm still waiting for the stuff to come through. You'd think after living with someone who is waitng for a transplant I would have thought of it sooner. Confused

Every time i go out on the bike my parting comment is usually " Don't forget I'm donating everything" A bit sick I know but there is no ambiguity when the time comes. I just hope it isn't too soon though.

They can fuck off.

I used to give blood, but had to stop because I broke my femur when I got knocked off my KR-1 years ago. I was told that I could resume donating twelve months after the removal of the metal inside my femur.

Went back to resume donating and they told me that under new rules, anybody that's had a blood transfusion since 1980 can no longer give blood. Something to do with CJD apparently.

I went crackers. They'd been sending me begging letters for months pleading for platelets due to my blood group. I told them that if I was a CJD risk then I'd got it from their sodding Blood Transfusion Service.

And if the blood's affected, then the organs will be too. Unless it suits them to turn a blind eye and whip a few innards out.

Thanks Very Happy I don't mind really though, I assume Karma doesn't mean anything unless you get so low you get banned. Or do they send a BCF key-ring in the post when you reach gold karma? Laughing

I ticked the option to be an organ donor on my driving licence when I applied for it when I was 16. Does this just apply if you die in a RTA or will I already be registered as an NHS donor? If not, I'll do it now.
