 |
|
Well if you've been watching/Listening to the news today you'll have heard about the LOR (Lindsey Oil Refinary) in Immingham NE Lincs. And today there have been more walk outs in SCotland Whales and Teeside.
For those who are unaware of this it is to do with the Plant awarding a 200million quid contract to the Italians, when around Grimsby and other places there are 100's of people out of work that would be more than willing, able and happy, to do this work. Yet 400 italians are sat in a floating hotel in Grimsby Docks. And this is at a time where our so called government is apparently doing everything it can to help our economy, and to that I say FUCK you Brown, if you really were trying then you'd chuck these bastards back where they came from and employ some real skilled trades men from the surrounding area.
I myself am in the same industry, and so are most of my friends and family. Grimsby is a Industrial town tat is currently clinging on to what is left of our heritage of building and making things. So why fuck off our Local tradesmen to these cunts?
Heres a Link :- https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/7857996.stm
What do you think?
Cheers

This is completely normal , I as an accountant have been competing against outsourcing for years £5 buys 5 hours in pakistan , £5 buys 2/5ths of an hour in the UK. This made me work faster and harder than before.
My solicitor buddies have also been competing against people from India.
The point was that the contract was put out to tender and companies and organisations were asked to bid on it, they lost.
What they should really do is look at WHY their bid failed, ie did it cost too much , were the skills not in place?... when I say that I mean it as a country in skills / costs in that the UK is a very expensive place to live with its high levels of buerocracy.
In that its not likely it would have been labour costs in that the € has gained 20% on the £ in a year. Could be skills issue.
But as with the other post if people think its great to pay £1 for a shirt , or £20 for a suit , then you have to accept the other side of globalisation. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. First off, the plant is owned by Total, which is French; blaming Brown* for what a French company is doing isn't going to help. If the contract was won by an Italian company, then as Itchy's pointed out, there must have been something lacking in the other bids. Probably, not enough backhanders :-
| Quote: | On December 16, 2008, the managing director of the Italian division of Total Lionel Levha with other 10 executives, was arrested by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Potenza, Italy, for a corruption charge of 15 million of Euro to undertake the oilfield in Basilicata on contract. |
Secondly, comments like
| Some union bod wrote: | There are men here whose fathers and uncles have worked at this refinery, built this refinery from scratch. It's outrageous. |
are going to be ignored by Total; they don't care what your father or uncle did, they care what you've done or are going to do.
Thirdly, if you start a poll asking "Good or Bad", don't have Yes and No as options to vote on. Yes, it's good or Yes, it's bad?
Fourthly, this should be in Current Affairs, really
* Not that I'm defending Brown; he's a waste of space that should drown in a vat of loose stool water, but that's beside the point. ____________________ Chances are quite high you are not in my Monkeysphere, and I don't care about you. Don't take it personally.

Saw some footage, good luck to them
I also saw a very fat UNISON rep in glasses and Hi-Viz marching about and he did actually shout "Come on, brothers!"

I think the owners of the factory will feel they made the right decision in employing foreign workers rather than a bunch of reds who down tools if they are 30 seconds late for their lunch break.
I also think they will be the next arm of the British manufacturing industry to strike themselves out of a job*.

**With the exception of the Clyde shipworkers who locked themselves IN and kept working when the shaipyard was earmarked for closure. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Besides, I thought the biggest industry in Grimsby was the manufacturing of babies anyway?
I think it's good that people strike, but for the right reasons. Striking at a time when your jobs are at risk is lacking in common sense somewhat.
The French strike properly though. Have a look on the internet for the May 1968 strikes in France, puts the 1920's general strike in Britain to shame. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
