Hornet 600 overheating:

Checked the coolant levels, they are fine

I am thinking it is maybe an air lock in the system? But how can i dislodge it?

Check you expansion tank bottle and make sure the rad is filled to the top.Next i would check the thermostat and water pump also your fan switch.

the fan isnt cutting in

How do i check waterpump and thermostat?

Check radiator hose is attached properly before posting that your bike is over heating...

Radiator is now full...
Levels are normal

I`ll get my coat.

Good example of checking the obvious first Embarassed



Fan wasnt cutting in though, so will look into that... Smile

Fan switch on rad,mine is sometimes a little late kicking in when i'm in traffic on very hot days.I just wired a manual switch to it aswell so i can whack it on myself.

it says in the haynes that if the radiator fan doesnt kick in check the coolant levels

The fan itself is connected to a white plug (i assume heat sensor) on the radiator. So if there is no water in it, it wont trigger and switch it on. Smile

Are there any bits of gravel stuck in the fan. On the hornet it's not unheard off for gravel and stones to get stuck in the fan preventing it from coming on. Thumbs Up

You could check the fan by shorting the connectors in the switch plug.

But yeah, air locks and the like will make it come on late or not at all.
