 |
|
Hi
Had a quick look but couldnt find nothing on here.
On a stretch of M271 going into Southampton they have a speed check area.
Yellow cams every few hundred yards apart with a 50 MPH zone.
Now, To my knowledge they are all forward facing so wont really affect me, however I noticed the last set on cameras are rear facing.
Early morning boxing day I did around 70 - was 4am.
This morning i did the same.
Bit worried now, is the last set off cams the one that snaps you?
If so I think im screwed 4 times to and fro in 2 days |

As I understand it, they read your plate and measure your average speed between TWO cameras.
I believe they don't work if you are in a different lane for each camera.
I'm not certain they are type approved for rearward facing use (don't quote me on this though). Are you sure that one wasn't "looking" at the opposite carriageway? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. I need to go back and check to put myself at ease
I think there is around 6? in a 2-3 miles stretch.
The last pair (which I think are rear facing) Could be for the other side, but thats overlooking my four lanes, to look at the other side.
Been told that rear ones aren't approved at the moment, how true that is I dont know.
Oh well, lessoned learnt. |

I'll be interested to hear how you get on Louise - they've only gone and installed the buggers on a stretch on the M5 that I pass regularly.
However, I don't know anyone that has been caught by specs cameras yet and that includes the M42... ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

All the SPEC ones ive seen are front facing. Hence I never really slowed down. Just did around 70 in them.
Then the last set I see this morning were rear facing - and I have heard that these are comming into force.
Im hoping as someone said above that it was for the other side, untill I go back to have a look I wont know.
I will keep you posted |

its an urban myth, when the 1st SPEC cameras where installed, there was aparently a software glitch that couldn`t tell the difference when you was switching from lane to lane. this software glitch has now been fixed.
You may not also be aware, that in some stretched of motorway where SPEC`s are in use, (the M1 roadworks for example) there are other cameras installed, both regular & IR cameras, these point in all sorts of directions, though primarily for monitoring traffic conditions, I wouldn`t be suprised if it wasn`t possible to co-ordinate the images of vehicles and timings of offences to use against you.
Speeding in roadworks, can also lead to charges of other offences being committed, such as dangerous driving ____________________ I accept no responsibility for swearing, drinking, motorcycle riding or your pregnant teenage daughter. |

Just thought of something even more worrying..
It would be 18 points if the cameras are rear facing.
As ive been to and fro 3 times - each way in 3 days.
Record ? If it happens |

The forward facing camera's don't use radar to see how fast you are going they do an ANPR check on the front number plate and record the time. All number plates are recorded. Then when you pass the next camera it does the same, works out the time it took you to get from camera A --> B and knowing the distance you can work out the speed.
We don't have front plates fitted the camera doesn't even know that you've gone past it and that's why you didn't get done. I've never got done by them either on the M1, M40, M6 or M5 to name but a few.

I've been told they can't correlate a front facing camera to using a traffic camera to identify a bike. Well, they can, but it's so time involving and risky in terms of prosecution they just won't do it.
They only did that chap on the beemer he went through that front facing camera at silly speeds showing the V sign so many times he pissed them off ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Little bit more info on the SPECS camera's for those interested;
https://www.speedcamerasuk.com/SPECS.htm
Basically as mentioned they only read the number plates using ANPR, so there's no picture of the offender - ie no proof at all that it was you! Very easy to get done if your plates have been cloned (car drivers). If it went to court it's pretty much impossible to prove that it wasn't you, at least with Gatso's you have a physical copy of a picture of the speeding vehicle!
As for bikes, physically impossible to be done due to having no front number plates, this system may be adapted in the future to read rear number plates but there's a number of technical difficulties as to why this would not be done.
Personally I absolutely HATE these cameras, yes they are very effective at keeping drivers/riders speed down over prolonged distances (essential to the safety of road maintenance workers) BUT people are so focused on their speedo that they stop paying attention to the road |
