Not having bought from a dealer but having haggled anyway before buying private in my experience a dealer will be willing to move at least £50 or give you something like a helmet on top.
The logic is if somebody pays the sticker price they make more money , if somebody haggles then they make the price that they were really preparing to let the item go for. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. They have staff wages, rent, electricity to pay for ... that's why they cost a lot more ... I always buy privately |

When buying from a dealer, I've found it easier to get accessories thrown in. Top Box is usually a good one. They will be paying cost price anyway. So if a top box + rack is about £150 retail, it's probably £100 cost. They can write that off easier than asking for £500 off the price of a bike.
I picked up a pre-reg 58 plate Tenere for £4899. I also got the hard luggage (£550) thrown in. I would not have got a £550 discount on the price of the bike, so having them include the luggage was enough to sweeten the deal for me.
Most dealers will come to some kind of arrangment if you are nice and dont try to take the piss. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Thing about dealers is that they are now trapped with stock that was overpriced but sellable due to easy credit.
Now the recession has taken hold they are stuck and can't lower their margins by enough to actually make them a 'bargain'.

Dealers can be cunts. https://www.jimhaymotorcycles.com/1021/frames.php this is an Aberdeen dealer trying to sell a 1974 suzuki RV125 for £2500 with 2400 miles on it, used to be trying £3000 when I was looking for a 125, not surprised he hasn't got rid of it one year later. Why? Because a Suzuki RV125 is what is now known as a VanVan. Scoot on over to Suzuki GB's brand new price of a VanVan (with there usual faggoty 1 years third party insurance) and what do I see? £2450! 50 quid less than this 35 year old bike, which I might add isn't a particularly sought after vehicle.
I felt I was ripped off at my local dealer as well, though I took it in the ass because I really, really wanted a TT600 in pristine condition and everywhere else had just sold the one they had in when I enquired. I got it for £300 less than they wanted, with a restrictor kit fitted and an MOT done the day before I picked it up. A seasoned haggler could have probably done better, but I was marginally proud of myself having paid "only" the top end of Parkers used price on that model. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |

Well in that case no one is ever ripped off? Unless they are at gunpoint.

Fair enough, I'm no expert in bikes, but I done a bit of research and couldn't find any info on the old RV's. I understand people wanting to buy old Vespa's for more than the new ones, even though it doesn't appeal to myself, but an old bike that isn't a cult/classic tends to seem like just an old bike. I will accept that I am wrong though.
EDIT: just found out the old one had a 2stroke engine, and feel foolish for not considering that point ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)
