Weather allowing, I should be checking out an SP1 next week, but I'm not really sure what I should be looking out for besides the usual corrosion. Did they have any faults that I should be wary of?

Cheers in advance Thumbs Up

Check the side mounted rads for drops. They get damaged quite easily if it goes over.

Check if it's an ex racer as well. Drilled sump plug, chipped rims, tired chassis on mint plastics.

A PCIII is an ideal mod as the standard fuelling is crap.

Does he keep it on an optimate, as it's a big twin they put quite a bit of strain on the starter system.

If it has carbon fibre exhaust cans they can be damaged by the engine's power pulses IIRC, and when were the exhausts last re-packed. The SP1 is pretty hard on them.

The whirring is the gear driven cams so is nothing to worry about.

HTH

Thumbs Up

The original owner did quite a lot of miles on it and threw silly amounts of money at the thing, but the signs I've seen of it from my first quick glance over made me think it was more for pose value than track performance.

The radiator's looked mint when I had a glance over it a couple of weeks back, but I'll give them a close inspection when I pop over again, cheers for the heads up on the sump plug too, thats not something I'd have thought of at all Thumbs Up

I'm looking forward to putting my money down and getting whoring with the photos, it's smutty beyond belief Smile

Rode it today (and yes, got caught in the snow too), not as bonkers as I was expecting it to be. The fueling had it's moments, it likes to bog down and then surge a bit at low speeds, but I'm used to working the clutch with the Aprilia so it's not too big a deal.

Biggest problem right off the bat is the noise, it's abusively loud, I filled it up right next to a police car in Morrisons on the way out and I'm honestly surprised I didn't get tugged right there and then. Putting stock cans back on it would be an injustice, but it desperately needs a set of baffles to make it a bit more considerate. Any ideas what should I be expecting to pay to get a set made and fitted?

The tyres on it (Bridgestone 012 front and back) also need to go sharpish, the front end didn't give me any grief, but the back end seemed to take a lifetime to get some heat going and actually start gripping. I don't suppose any of you have first hand experience of sports touring tyres (BT-021s or Roadsmarts preferably) on an SP1/2? BT-016s would be the logical choice but I suspect I'd square them off too fast.

Beyond that, I'm as good as sold on it I think, as impractical as it is, it's just too stunning to pass over Thumbs Up

For baffles unless the cans are a strange bore(I don't think they are) then you should be able to buy some generic baffles or DB killers over the counter then just drill the outlet of your can to hold them in place. Usually they are £10-£20 per can.

I don't have experience of sports touring tyres on the SP2, but from the mille I'd say avoid Conti Road Attacks, and BT-014's since they square off too quickly. Most people tended to rate standard diablos or Corsa III/ 2CT's. Thumbs Up

If you're interested BSD in Peterboro can get a reliable 140ish bhp out of SP1's. Go any higher than that and you'll start hitting problems with the clutch, gearbox and crank. Thumbs Up

Moneys down, let the whoring commence....

It's been fully blueprinted and has a power commander fitted (annoyingly looks like a PCII though), it needs a few little things done but beyond that, it's pretty much got everything short of a turbo on it already Thumbs Up

That looks really nice. How much did it set you back?

Also, has it been resprayed? As far as I know it was the SP2 that came in the Castrol scheme.

Not gone through all the receipts for it yet, but what I know at the moment:

PCII + blueprinted.
Harris high level carbon system.
Harris adjustable rearsets
Ohlins damper
Ohlins fork internals
Ohlins rear shock (Looks like a 46PRLS)

It's a 2000 V plate, but bar a few small blemishes on the paint work it's in incredible condition given the age, cosmetically the only issues I have with it are the polished swingarm (just why) and a small split starting above the center screw on the front nose cone that'll want sorting sooner rather than later.

It went for £3795, bit steep for the age, but its worth it Smile

Yeah, thats the one. he wouldn't happen to be the van driver I was talking to at Morrisons yesterday? Thank him if it was, I reckon I'd have gotten grief from the police right there if he wasn't talking to me at the time Very Happy

Looks very smart dude, I bet it sounds even better though. An SP1 would be in my dream sportsbike garage. Thumbs Up

Let's hope the weather clears up so you can get your moneys worth out of it.

As you say, it's pretty steep for a V plate, but you're getting a lot of bike for your money. If it's definately from 2000 then it's had what looks like a very professionally done respray too Thumbs Up

Yeah, the paint was done by BBW race paint and looks absolutely stunning. The right side tail numberboard has a little blemish but beyond that its mint.

Have you got a reciept for the paint job? Just wondering how much something like that would cost - I'd imagine a fair bit...

I was going to say, that looks sexy as but the swingarm lets it down. Powered coated black would be good.

Looks very nice... a bike for me in the future maybe Cool

Thats lovely, lucky bastard.

Chap on my course said he got a swingarm powder coated for 100 quid, including removing and fitting to the bike, seems a bit too good to be true, possibly mates rates. Anyway might be worth a try, want me to get the details?
