I have just noticed that my rear brake torque arm is bent in the middle, towards the tyre. it leaves less than 1cm clearance between the side of the torque arm and the sidewall of the tyre.

I don't know if it's always been like this but I'm sure it hasn't.

What could have caused it? Is my chain overadjusted? Is it just meant to be like that? (I'm assuming not.)

Still needs something to attach the drum to the bike, or else it would just spin.

My RX-S has a torque arm and that has a rear drum.

sounds like your wheel alignment is out.
Did you kick the back wheel when you were adjusting the wheel alignment as this can bend the arm on the wee bikes.

bikes with rear drums still have a torque arm

arhh i see both my drum brake bikes have a notch in the drum and locating pin on the swing arm.
but pics show that the el250 has a torque arm.

and it being on the bottom, i cant see any reason it would bend
as i would be pulling against the arm.

Flip it through 180 degrees so it bends back again?

Should do yeah, but would be nice to find out why it's gone like that in the first place.

Wheel alignment doesn't SEEM out, and it certainly seems to ride OK. Surely if it was out sufficiently to bend things, I'd notice something?

It's basically bowed in the middle. Imagine if you take a long flat piece of metal, fix one end to something and then push the other end - push hard enough and it will bend one way or another.

Should I just bend it back and keep riding?

well that's what id do Thumbs Up

the only thing i can think of is you have brake ed hard while going backwards and this has forced the arm to flex if that sounds feasible
