Had the bike a while now its an 04 xr125 with high millage and new(ish) engine (got it third hand)

Only while cleaning it i found a paint brush sticking out of a pipe from the top of the engine. I'm guessing its some kind of breather ? and that it should have a pipe there?(not a brush) ?

If some one could tell me what this pipe is called and where it goes so i can buy one it would be greatly appreciated.

BTW shes running fine (slow but sure)('Laughing') maybe the odd tiny little backfire but no louder than . . . ?

In my experience that doesnt look much like a breather, it looks more like a coolant pipe.

Although saying that I've never looked at an XR125.

hi m8

it appears to be the crankcase breather and would normally go to the air box.
this bike will probably run better with it connected as engine's need to breath and this may be restricting performance Thumbs Up

you could use a piece of rubber hose and make it fit to the air box if you are up for the job a the brush has got to go Laughing hth

Apart from it's coming from the head and not from the crank case.

Looks more like the tacho cable or decompresser (if once fitted) cable guide.

Crank-case breathers can come off the rocker cover. Lots of bikes have it set up like that.

No, I mean on the XL, should (or used to be unless they have moved it) on the crank case behind the starter motor.

Also if the crank case breather was blocked by a brush the engine wouldn't be running right unless its venting somewhere else.

On the top of the engine, nowhere near the exhaust pipe. You have no idea what you're talking about do you.

What happens if you take it out!?!?!? Wink

It does look like a breather to me ...

Bearing in mind I am fairly sure its just a breather, if it were me, I'd take the brush out (funny as feck that!! Laughing) start the bike and see what happens ...

If it was a breather noting really should happen ... well except for some air-flow.

You then need to get a bit of pipe and either connect it to the airbox, or if that bit/nipple is broken off or summin, run it down to the ground where any oil vapour can be jettisoned without making the bike all yucky!! Thumbs Up

lol not really i didnt even see where its coming from, im a 2stroke man Wink

my logic was a pipe cut and blocked ? some sort of restrictor was there , i.e. cat . plus ive never seen a metal pipe as a breather tube

It looks like a breather tube which is routed through the airbox for emmisions purposes. Personally I'd just reconnect it to the airbox as a 125 4T aint gonna make any noticceable perormance gains anyways, though if you must block the hole its left in the airbox and fit a filter to the breather (engine) outlet Wink

Just the opposite ... on a low powered bike, even small HP looses/gains are more likely to be noticeable!! Wink

Yep, that's how I remember it.

Still say it looks like something a cable would be going into. have you tried taking the chromecover on the head off to see what is beneath?

That pic does show one/it on the crankcase, but it's not uncommon to have a breather at the top of an engine ... at the end of the day the camchain 'run' allows the airflow from the bottom to the cam/rocker cover area.

Looking at the OPs pics, the pipes size and its position, I'd bet a shiny Penny Coin that is all it is!! Thumbs Up
