My wife's Yamaha DT175's tyres need to be replaced. The tyre sizes are as follows:

Front: 3.00-21
Rear: 4.10-18

My Yamaha XT350 tyre sizes are as follows:

Front: 3.00-21
Rear: 4.60-18

Seeing that the front tyres are the same size on the two bikes, is it possible that I can use the bigger 4.60-18 tyre that is on the XT350 on the DT175?

I reckon half an inch should be fine as 10mm up is generally ok.

Trail tyres seem to be more adaptable.
I've had a 4" trials tyre on both my LC4 and EXC (former has a 140 tyre as standard, latter a 110) and it's been fine.

hi m8

as above should be fine on a trail bike.

would not recommend on a road bike though as over sizing messes up the handling characteristics.

The question is why?

If you are buying a new tyre, why not buy the one intended for the bike? The smaller tyre will prolly be cheaper too Wink

Or are you intending to put one of your cast-offs on it? If so, I'd have no qualms about fitting the 4.60! Thumbs Up

If its a spare you have give it a try.

Only issue would be it catching on the swinging arm or something else, due to the increased size.

Thanks for all your replies. I am not going to use a cast off, my wife has an inferiority complex because her tyre is thinner than mine, and says it looks like a Marie biscuit. I am going to replace my tyre anyway, so I will put it over at some stage when I feel like it to see if it will fit. Her tyre is still okay for the time being though.
