what reasons for carb leak?

I wondered what are the common reasons for carb leaking/weeping?

I got out the scootay today, and it stunk of petrol. I noticed that the carb is leeaking, from the breather tube. What are the causes to investigate? Damaged needle? Float bowl? I hoped instant gasket would save me. Alas, no. I'd rather fix than replace, as I hardly use the scootay.


Please advise.

Is that a breather or an overflow? could just be a stuck float perhaps. If it's leaking from the pipe why instant gasket around the float bowl face? unless you know the proper seal isn't in there (o-ring maybe.. which would cause petrol t leak through into that pipe i would have thought)..

that carb needs an outside clean aswell as an inside one.

Usually, float gets stuck down so when bowl fills with fuel, it keeps pouring in, overflows and pours out into air box/breather/engine.

Could be other things though, although that is your best bet, try tapping the float bowl to loosen up float or for permanent fix, remove carb, undo the 4 screws on teh float bowl and clean out with carb cleaner or similar.

Could be the needle valves need replacing as they are not shutting off properly, I had to do it on the zxr, cost me like 80 quid for a set
