And what does it mean when it buzzes horribly and your bike doesnt start?

Shocked

And also, to remove the starter motor, do I go in through the left side and remove the engine casing first?

Thanks in advance!

Probably the relay for the starter motor so your starter motor may be o.k. if the relay is knackered.

It's the starter relay. If it buzzes it means that your battery is either flat of completely dead. I wouldnt muck about with the starter motor until you have sorted the other problems first.

After months of bump starting and faffing around, I got a feeling it may be my starter motor that's knackered. Either that or the reg/rec. The battery is a brand new battery from Dec and the bike only ever seems to fire up if the battery has been on charge overnight... reg rec dead? The starter motor makes a whirring sound when attempting to start....

So are you saying the starter motor spins but doesn't engage with the engine?

Could be the starter solenoid.

Run the bike and put a multimeter set to 12 volts on the battery terminals, you should be getting between 13 and 14 volts if your reg/rec is working.

This happened with my mates R1,when we revved it,the voltage went down,he then went and bought 2 reg/recs off ebay until we tracked it down to a bad earth,so don't assume it's the reg/rec just yet.

I have no clue about electrics, do I just go through the whole bike making sure everything is properly connected?

Thumbs Up
