In the last year or so I have almost hit several deer, a fawn, a barn owl (in the Brecon Beacons) various foxes and most recently a New Forest pony.

So what animals have you had close run ins with?

Zebra
Pelican
Toucan
Puffin

Ran straight over all of 'em.

There was a story going round that I'd also done a Pegasus but I can assure you that was just a myth Very Happy

A suicidal jack russell between the wheels of my Vespa.

A rabbit on the GPZ.

No close encounters on the XJ. Out of the bikes I've ridden this has the brightest headlight, is the widest, and is louder than the GPZ but much quieter than the Vespa. However, I think the jack russell was offended by the noise of the Vespa, whereas wild animals tend to stay away from human activity, I would have thought.

ive had the following:

>an owl
>several rabbits
>a sparrow hit my chest head on
>half a pheasant down my ram air tube
>bumped into a badger. it didnt die.
>obliterated a stupid seagull in the road, in front of some pissheads who went ''weyyyy''

I've hit pheasants, pigeons and rabbits, but the worst has to have been a wasp that hit me in the throat and then flew down the neck of my jacket, stinging me repeatedly across the chest.

Evil or Very Mad

A rather large ram tried to butt me in scotland once,it waited until all my mates went past then went for me,tasteless bast!
I had an owl fly out of a hedge and just missed my head at BIG speed a few years ago.
Coming home from my brothers in the early hours a few weeks ago i had to avoid a badger then two deer, then two more deer, all in the space of about one and a half miles!
So far i seem to have missed everything nature has thrown at me,a few rabbits excepted.

Near misses with stags (twice), normal deer a few times.

Actually run over a squirrel, my back wheel (on my DR350) went right over it according to following riders and it got up and legged it. Soft deep mud plus low pressure tyre I spose.

Finally, I hit and killed a Muntjack deer on the old A120 (now bypassed)a few years ago at about 2am in the morning.

I was doing about 70mph on an unlit bone straight road when I saw fur in the headlight beams right next to me and felt something hit my left crashbar and boot/footrest. I thought it was a fox or a dog at first. I slowed to a stop with my left foot throbbing like mad. Looked behind me but it was black as yer hat. Did a U-turn so my headlights would point behind me to see something laying in the road.

I rode back past and did another U-turn, parked the bike in the entrance to a farm gate so the lights pointed at the body and walked up to see if it was still alive. It was stone dead, looked like the 70mph blow to the head had killed it outright.

Next morning I went back past it on the way to work and took pictures, it looked bigger in the daylight, about the size of an Alsation. After I got to work I went to Victoria Park police station to report it and they told me it wasn't a reportable animal. Got that in writing, also that I'd been in and tried to report it.

So proof that speeding saves lives. If I'd been doing 50mph as the new proposals would have me doing, it would've gone under my front wheel and I wouldn't be typing this now. So Bambi did not die needlessly.

I had a sheep run into the side of me while stationary on my bike...
But the only thing i've hit while riding is a bee which then stung me on the chin.
In the car i've hit rabbits, pheasants, a cat & a child. The child & the pheasants both caused several hundred quids worth of damage. Mad

I've headbutted a pigeon on purpose once. Had feathers stuck to my air grills Laughing

Nearly hit a montjack at 90.

And in one 2 hour ride I killed about 20 animals. several rabbits, foxes, some pigeons,a hedgehog(though I was gonna puncture my tyres!) and a hawk. At least a very close resembling one. I wipe blood off my jacket that day. And the VFR smelt funky Laughing

Sure there's other things...

I still remember the kamikaze pheasant with G. Saw it running from a field in the corner of my eye. Running form the field, across a grass patch, onto the road and jumped/flew onto G' bike! Then it flipped up with it's wings open and feathers going everywhere and nearly takes me out! I had to duck! Feathery suicide! Laughing

A kangaroo. Cool

Decided it would hop out into the road for no reason - it had been standing on the side of the road with its mate as I was trundling out along the access road of the track I'd just been having a trackday at.

I was going slowly anyway, but there was nothing I could have done to avoid it.

Thankfully it decided to take avoiding action by jumping over me, I had to duck to avoid nutting its feet. I have never seen anything take off like that hopper did, truely astonishing!

sideswiped a deer.....somehow stayed on.

cracked left side of the fairing, mirror, indicator and choke lever ripped clean off.

a helpful car driver coming from the opposite direction stopped and put his lights on main beam "so it illuminated the deer". the twunt didn't realise all it did was dazzle people coming the other way

Hi

Closest without actually hitting it was a pigeon years ago. While I was going at a fair rate of knots and had to duck.

While driving the Maserati about 10 years ago I very nearly hit a large deer. If I had I suspect the car would have been written off.

About 20 years ago in North Wales I ran over a sheep (over the shoulder blades) and killed it outright. I didn't fall off the bike, which shows than 400 Superdreams have their uses.

All the best

Keith

Friend recently hit a dog on his GPR125.

Came off and broke his wrist. Fair bit of bike damage too.

Nearly hit a duckling once.

There where 5 or 6 following there mother across a dark unlit road and I only saw them at the last minute and just had to aim for a gap in them. I did go back to check and there werent any lying in the road so I presume I managed to miss them.
