At a guess vapour lock? , in that check the proximity of your inline fuel filter (you do have one right?) and fuel pipe to the engine.

In that if it is too close then the heat causes the petrol to vapourise inside the fuel line or filter causing a pressure block in the fuel line which causes fuel starvation.

A way to check this is to run the bike wait till it dies then splash (Carefully) some cold water on the fuel filter , if it starts up again fine there is your problem, if not its somewhere else.

You're jumping from the bike dying on you to buying a new engine? Show some commitment!
At least try what Itchy told you before even considering something else.

Vapour lock test costs NOTHING, if it is vapour lock the fix is in pennies (ie wrap the filter or heat shield it.

Under the petrol tank connected to the petrol tank you will find a fuel tap , follow this along and you should find something cylindrical this should be your fuel filter it should look like this

https://www.germes-online.com/direct/dbimage/50039182/Plastic_Fuel_Filter.jpg

it should run to the carb or fuel pump I forget if the RS has a fuel pump or not, run your bike as normal , when it cuts out spash some cold water on the fuel filter.

If it is vapour lock the petrol vapour inside the fuel filter should condense into liquid petrol again and the bike should start up on the button.

If this doesn't work its something else, its one of those random problems that can't be replicated in a garage.

If it is vapour lock heat shield the fuel filter or buy some longer fuel hose and move it away from the source of the heat.

hi,
no in line fuel filter on the rs.
only filter is in the carb, a gauze one.
oh & inside the fuel tank, behind the fuel tap, bugger to get at though.
suspect its nothing to do with overheating but carb related. as i have run the rs at around 100deg! when sitting in traffic, unless the thermostat or guage is dodgy.
try running it without the thermostat to rule it out.
time to take it back to basics.
got compression?-needing around 120psi +
got spark? (stick a new plug in)
got fuel? (keep the tank full & make sure the breathers arnt blocked, try it with the fuel cap open)
is the carb needing the floats adjusted?
cheers,
GAZ

hi,
start with the basics,
you say its a new plug, but are you actually getting a spark?
is petrol getting to the carb? (try opening the drain screw & see if any petrol dribbles/pours out)
what voltage is the battery showing? dont trust the lcd,use a multi-meter.
is the spark plug wet or dry after you try & start it?
is the engine back in the bike?
cheers,
GAZ
