I am not going into much detail about the claim, but here is my question;

Someone I know had an accident on their bike over the weekend and they had a straight through exhaust on the bike. The accident has been deemed the fault of the car driver.

Will the insurance company or who ever assesses the bike pick up on a straight through can? On a plus note it is a completely blank exhaust with no markings such as "Not for road use".

Cheers

Neil

It shouldnt come into it. Most likely scenario is that the assessor will value the bike / estimate repairs.

If there is damage to the exhaust then that will be catered for too.

The 3rd party assessor is not to know which mods have been declared etc, on your policy and nor will he be able to say that the exhaust was a factor in the accident.

Does that make sense? Not sure if you are worried about a potential non declared mod or a illegal exhaust.

I was in a non fault smash a couple of years back on my NC29.

It had custom FG race fairings with light holes cut in, Straight through exhaust, Alot of the parts were changed for aftermarket parts, Levers etc.

The bike wasnt even 33bhp restricted (Which it should of been).

The assessor was a bike assessor, from the 3rd parties insurance, And he asked no questions. just wrote it off for me.

Depends on which policy the claim is being dealt with.

If he's comprehensive and is claiming for the damage to his bike on his own policy then his insurance company will send an assessor and the assessor should comment on any non standard parts fitted and provide the information back to the claims department to check against the original underwriting information. At this point, they MAY raise the question....but I doubt it.

If he's allowing the third party insurer to handle the claim and it's their assessor they're sending - then it'll make no odds what he disclosed or otherwise.

Should be Ok.

So long as they don't get silly when they settle and start saying well it had all these extra parts on that are not standard....
Unless of course they were already declared to the insurance co.

Don't declare them, don't expect them to replace like for like.
