Hi all i have fitted my new engine and had it checked by the garage to make sure it was fitted ok, now i have rode it for a day and the revs die out in between half revs and full revs but then it keeps the revs on at full throttle but isnt goin fast then all off a sudden it just picks up speed, but then after five mins off riding it doesnt die out but when you stop for traffic lights it takes ages to build speed up again and i mean like 5mins. could it just be shit in the carb like the bloke from the shop said or is there something else ?

Sounds very much like fuelling problems. Suggest you remove carbs, strip them down and clean them. Take care stripping them down - watch out for how springs etc are attached. Take lots of digital photos as you go. Blow air through the jets - whatever you do don't poke at them with a bit of wire or needle!

Although I still think it will be a fuelling problem, let's eliminate other possibilities.

Buy and fit a new spark plug and plug cap - won't do any harm and will cost less than a tenner.

What you riding (I assume a Piaggio of some sort) and how old is it?

does the bike have a manual choke? if so turn it off Laughing

i was young and dumb once and forgot to turn my manual choke of on the nsr....wondered why it kept konking out at traffic lights, and when i pulled the throttle fully back...!

ah well!

:EDIT: this wont have a manual choke so forget what i said and put it down to random blethering....

im just sick off it now, got the carb cleaned and put back together and then started it up and it run with no revs but then when i increase th revs up it runs fine at half revs but then dies at full revs and starts backfiring a little, i had the compression checked at the garage and it was at 115 so its got enough compression, i have also changed the spark plug and its still the same.

Good you fitted a new plug. For the sake of a couple of quid, fit a new plug cap too.

Next to check is timing - particularly advance mechanism (if a scooter has one) if it's not running right and backfiring at higher revs. Although I too have a Piaggio have been unable to get covers off so not too familiar with ignition setup.
