What is the minimum a track will accept, is it the same as the road legality?
Thanks
EDIT: If I need to replace them, what would be good?
Pirelli Diablo Rosso?
Metzler Rennsports? (currently on the bike)
Pirelli Diablo Corsa?
Dunlop Sportmax?
All these say they are for super sports bikes, so I guess they should be OK, right? ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

You can use slicks!
They tend to look at the condition of your tyre rather than the tread left on it. I had a front with loads of tread on it, but the wear was uneven so they wouldn't let me on the track.
To be honest I didn't even realise and if I had, I would have changed it. Now, one of the first things I look at is condition of my tyres.

I've just tried out (on Sat) metzler rennsports for the first time, on track.
Fuckin' fantastic tyres.
Get upto heat fairly quick and very grippy!
On a zx6r G2 (99) model, in Intermediate group.
Assuming its your first Tday, you'll be fine in Novice with Rennsports! ____________________ "Oh....it looks like Average Joe's is forfeiting the match!" - "Yeah, its a risky strategy but lets see if it pays off for 'em Cotton." |

Ahh, ok I will stick with them, get it? they must be pretty soft as they only last me 2500 miles. But they do grip....well. Yes, I booked into the Novice class. I need the experience behind me until I know where my place is.
Thanks for the comments guys, that's put me at ease. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

Depends on the bike you are on.
My ZZR had bt-020's then I changed them for Sportmaxx qualifiers. Much better a tire and grippy as hell around the track.
Might get a set for the VFR...

fecked tyres will ruin your trackday and as I have just written in another thread:-
"If you were going to get tyres straight AFTER trackday, then you might as well get them just before ... as G said, new rubber gives you a lot more feel etc. But also consider that the bits that will get worn is the far edges that you probably won't be wearing on the road .. the middle bit will remain virtually untouched ...
So you are not wearing out any part of the tyre that you need (for the road) and the added bonus is that you get to 'wear' a chewn up rear for the rest of the tyres life (on the road) and look cool!! " ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

is chewn even a word?
A new tyre is also better because it'll be in better condition generally, i.e. have had fewer heat cycles through it etc.
