ok help needed, she starts most of the time no problem,
but ever now and again she is dead, horn work but the start button does not, the neutral light goes of at the same time
so then you sit there and wait for the neutral light to come back on and she will start ok, now hubby has booked his test for monday
what will happen if the bike does this while on the test??
And anybody know how to fix this please

Does the bike only start in neutral (with the clutch in)?

It sounds like a problem with the neutral sensor switch in the gearbox, to me.

You can bypass it fairly easily, if this is the problem.

With the neutral light on, drop it into first and try starting it with the clutch in. Does it work then or not?

No, try it when it will start. I am aiming to find out if your bike has an inhibitor so it won't start unless it's in neutral (safety feature). If so then this is probably what is causing the problem.

Sounds more like a faulty ground connection then.

Depends what you mean by "trouble"?

They might not let him do the test if it refuses to start.

Chaffed wire where the wiring loom passes around the headstock. If you are lucky the chaffing will be clearly visible (pull the loom away from the frame and look behind it for exposed wire), if you are not so lucky a wire will be broken inside the wrapped loom.

Another possibility is that one of the multi-block connectors is loose, give them all a good shove.
