Is there a way of knowing for sure that the fork seals are leaking when the forks are off the bike?

Thing is,they looked like they were leaking on the bike, but the brake fluid was also leaking (right next to the fork seal area) so i'm not sure if it's just been brake fluid and not fork oil.

I have took the forks off and give them a good clean, then bounced up and down on them and theres no oil on the stanchions.
The shit i cleaned off didn't smell like brake fluid or fork oil Eh?

Any little tips/tricks to find out for sure? or should i just do them anyway since i have them off?

Thanks
Dave

They're cheap fork seals though.

Genuine ones will be about £20 for a pair.
