Suzuki RG125 Swingarm removal

I've stripped the RG back to the frame ready for spraying, with one problem: I can't get the swingarm off.

I've taken the nut off the swingarm bolt, but the bolt itself won't turn, with a windy gun or a big breaker bar.

Is there a special tool needed to remove it? Or a special method?

hi,
i recently had the swingarm off my mk1 gama, to replace the bushes.
was a bitch to get the bolt out.
but it did come out,eventually after a bit of persuasion (ie. large hammer).
once i got it to move, then it was easy after that.
have you tried hitting it out?
strange that its not even turning.

They are often rusted into their bushes and either impossible to remove or can only be removed by extreme violence where lots of things get broken. You need to decide whether it's really worth it.

If you have got the time, dump the whole lot in a bath of diesel for 6 months. Otherwise use a scaffold pole over the bolt end to brace the frame against a wall, then hit the other end with a sledgehammer 3 or 4 times. If it doesn't move, consider if you want to carry on - you'll probably end up cutting out the swingarm and having to replacing it.

Yeah, I tried hitting it from the nut end, to no avail. It will turn, but the swingarm turns with it - it won't turn freely.

as finpos said it is probably rusted to the bushes, my self i would do one of three things

1: buy another swing arm and cut the old one out replace all the bushes and service / strip down regulaly after to prevent it happening again,

2: CAREFULLY heat the swing arm using a blow lamp or gas ax/torch then try and drift the bolt through,(you may damage existing swing arm if to rough)

3: soak in diesel/ spray with penetration oil (wd40) for a month or two

Soak it in Plus Gas, (proper penetrating fluid), then get it turning before knocking out. Once turning, spin it back and forwards, this will clear some of the rust. Be careful of the swingarm, they're very flimsy and easy to dent - same with the frame and the threaded end of the pivot bolt.

For anyone else reading this - when was the last time you greased your swingarm bushes They quite often get neglected and once seized, can be a real bitch to get out.

keep at it & it WILL come out.
even if it means lying it on its side, supporting it & spraying it with plus gas.
& then battering it with a big hammer. (making sure you dont bend anything lol)
cos the bushes are plastic & are gonna need replacing anyway (usual mot failure) & the spacers are aluminium so if they get mashed, they can be replaced.
so can the bolt if neccessary.
the hard bit is getting that first bit of movement, after that it should keep on movin! lol

or you could always attack it with an angle grinder?
right through the spacers & bolt.
then youll have seperated them & have the room to get at the remaining bolts.
a bit drastic & would mean renewing bolt,spacers & bushes, but tbh these are more than likely needing renewed anyway.
but be preapered for a shock, suzuki prices for these things aint cheap!
