I have the opportunity to pick up an old fantic 237 trials bike and was wondering if it is possible to make these road legal and if so what would i need to do?

If it has no lights its fairly simple. Assuming its already road registered then you just need to fit a horn (I use a 9v bicycle type) and you can get a daylight MOT.

If its not road registered you have to get it MOT'd with the chassis number rather than registration, then a trip to your local DVLA office to get it registered. It can be a bit tricky because you need to take proof of insurance it to get it registered and some insurance companies can be a bit funny about insuring bikes that are not registered. Bit of a chicken and egg situation but not impossible.

Hi

You will also need proof of age. Beyond that it comes down to exactly how old it is. If under about 15 years (forget the exact date) then it will need SVAing. If older then it is quite easy.

Insurance on the chassis number isn't too difficult, but watch out for your insurance only being for a very short time (like a month) which can be a pain if insure it when you are not ready to register it.

All the best

Keith

Thank you both for the advice but i dont think it will be possible to get it road legal now. When i picked it up the owner had fitted a cg 125 engine into the frame and had cut a big chunk of frame out while doing it.

Ill be trying to get it as safe as possible and be using it for offroad i think Smile

Karma to follow when i have some more Thumbs Up
