Which came first the ridiculous amount of health and safety drivel or the waves upon waves of pointless law suits aimed at lining the pockets of every chancer intent on making a few quid without doing any work to get it.
Id really love to say the bbc has been totally stupid in its H&S nazi aproach. But when you consider they just got royally bent over and taken from behind for one of their presenters making a prank phone call, id hate to imagine what would happen if someone had died.
Get rid of the sue anything that moves culture and companies wont need these ridiculous guidelines to protect there own rears. ____________________ And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Good ol' corporate manslaughter...
A few years ago I had a claim roll in - basically a guy that worked in the loading bay of a bakery had gone outside into the yard to put some rubbish in the wheelie bin. In doing so, he managed to drop the lid of the wheelie bin onto his fingers, fractured 3 of them, one of the fractures had complications and eventually his finger was amputated.
He got himself a solicitor and we ended up with the Employers Liability claim being presented. The crux of it was that the Insured had not previously given his staff any formal training on the use of a wheelie bin, and therefore had been negligent towards the welfare of his staff, asking them to undertake tasks for which they were not trained.
The Insured then did what proactive insured's do, he trained the remainder of his staff to use a wheelie bin....
This went AGAINST him in court, because it had shown that there was a NEED for training and as such, he should have given it before the incident.
So, £50k and one amputated finger later..... |

I like this bit:
"This young man came in and said he was going to supervise and we told him to clear off. Or words to that effect."
I bet they said something like:
Clear orf, you young whippersnapper, or we'll throw snowballs at yer.

I think the part about an arctic survival expert giving them training was the funniest part. As said in the article "he had about 10% of Ran's knowledge". ____________________
