Anyone play electric guitar?

Am trying to learn to play and have tried allsorts,videos,books etc but tbh i'm still s**t,possibly because i'm trying to play diificult tunes or maybe i'm just doing it all wrong,anyone know an easy well known tune to learn,also i'm using tabs as i can't read music yet and am completely lost when it comes to chords

Do you have any friends that can play? If not, it might be worth paying for a couple of lessons, just to get over the initial hump and learn the basics.

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/ has a good selection of lessons, you may find one there that piques your interest.

There is no substitute for practice. You are aiming to build up muscle memory, so that you don't have to think about where your fingers go, they just know. You may think "Kumbaya" and "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" are for 5 year old lamers, but they do their job.

I can't play, but my GF has played for years and is now excellent (as you would expect)

I asked about starting to play and the best tips she could give me were:

1. The first year or so, you will sound sh*t, but keep at it and it will come together.

2. Buy the best equipment you can afford - a cheap guitar will sound crap regardless of how good the player is.

3. Practise til your fingers bleed (and they will!) and then practise some more!

sorry to drag up an old thread but you guys seem to know your stuff on here,have learnt the basic chords and am trying to play patience by guns n roses and it sounds nothing like it,loads of people are saying they play with their tuning down "half a step" as this is how slash does it,how much is "half a step"?i have a digital tuner is there some way i can use this to get the tuning right for the job?
