Looking for potential cause of my clutch problem.

Basically it fails to disengage, ie clutch in change to 1st release and I am going no where, after about 5 mins it starts working fine and I am off.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi

The clutch on the Bandit 12 is a hydraulic one, and pushes a shaft from under the front sprocket cover through the gearbox. Part of that shaft is exposed to rubbish from the chain. It could be a build up of that rubbish that is stopping the shaft from returning easily. That would be the first thing I would check. Also check the shaft is still straight.

It is also well worth cleaning up the system and bleeding it. Plenty of people rarely bother to bleed the clutch and the resulting fluid can cause issues (ie, can result in a solid residue that can block some of the small holes in banjo bolts, etc).

All the best

Keith

Will give that a go changed the brake fluid recently as it was non responsive. So high chance the clutch side has went the same way. Will get all the gunk cleared as well and fingers crossed that will be that.

Thumbs Up Very Happy

Hi

You can get rebuild kits for the clutch master cylinder (just did the one on my Bandit). Biggest problem is that there is a thin metal shield under the sprocket cover protecting the master cylinder, which is held on by 2 soft and easily damaged philips head bolts, which on mine were a pig to remove. I landed up cutting a deep slot in each one with a Dremel so I could put some reasonable force on them.

All the best

Keith
