Hello all,

As i pulled away from the petrol station after a run of about 20 miles at speeds between 50 and 100 i noticed a knocking that can be felt all through the bike, more like a clunk.

Symptoms:

1st gear, set revs to pull away, no knocking.

Let clutch out and start to pull away, a loud initial clunk and loads of smaller ones, not as loud.

2nd gear, let clutch out an accelerate, same thing, only not as loud.

This dissapears the higher i go in the range, or maybe it's happening but i can't feel / hear it as much.

I odn't think it's big ends as this would be evdent on just revving the engine, i'm thinking more gearbox / output shaft that sort of area.

The chain ans sprokets are worn and needing changing, i just hope i haven't broken anything big.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Davie

Sounds like you've folded the teeth over on the front sprocket. If it was just in 2nd gear I'd say your gear dogs were knackered as they ahve a habit of going in 2nd.

If it's ok you're gonna have to provide more acurate info. Firstly, check the chain. Does it have any tight-spots or is it adjusted too tight? This will produce a 'crunching' sound when you ride.

OK,

Chain has excessive play and i only have about 3 adjuster marks left on the swingarm, there are no tight spots that i can see.

I cleaned and lubed the chain yesterday, it seems ok if worn.

I'll get both checked asap.

His house ... garage isn't ready yet ... I'll pop up as well.

Have you checked the sprocket bearing?

Just back from Shmoo's where him and barry pronounced my chain and sprocket dead.

I'm OK with that, hopefully that's it and not something more sinister.

Oh so now you're questioning our mechanical knowledge ... I'll have my paddock stands back then ... and who's going to fit your chain and sprockets now Thinking
