Does anybody know of problems with the speedo mech at the wheel of the (Pre div) XJ600.

I assumed the cable had gone so replaced it but after some testing I've determined that the Clocks and new cable are fine leaving the only culprit to be the assembly bit at the wheel.

I'm no spanner whiz so any help appreciated.

Also my rear tyre is getting down to the wear line. So what tyres come recommended? I hear alot of good things about BT45's, and prices seem reasonable (though I've never bought a new bike tyre so dont know).

Can you get 'run flats' for bikes?

just got some bt45's for my xj600, i cant see or say anything wrong with them tbh, better than i expected really. hold up well in the wet as well.

as for the speedo, i believe it might be a broken speedo clutch, as i have had 2 fail on my over the last couple of months.

cheers
matt

matt, any idea where these are available, price and is it something that can be fitted easily or does the whole wheel need come off?

How much ti you pay for your BT45's? A place I found (online) wants around 65 for the front and 75 for the rear...then obviuosly I gotta pay for fitting!

have you been using standard grease on the speedo drive? the previous owner had problems with this on his and found the nylon thing inside it had swollen and melted under friction. it turns out the grease had reacted with it. i think it was graphite grease your meant to use or silicon although i dont remember.

Whip the speedo drive off and have a peek its a 5 minute job!

metalforever, what profile ones did you get? I have a sneaky feeling that the ones on it are not right as they seem a bit square
