Anyone know a good place to get heavy bar end weights cheap?

My CBR still vibrates too much and I'm beginning to give up on ever finding the reason Confused It has shitty aftermarket alloy bar ends so getting some heavier ones should at least help mask the problem Laughing

My CBR600F (99) bar ends appear to be light alloy also, however the actual clip ons appeared to be solid steel in that I was curious and had an angle grinder and a seriously bent clip on that was junk.

However the CBR600F is a smooth bike IL4 , maybe the vibes are an indication of something else wrong?.

Ie are your carbs sync'd (take a girlie on the back if they are not).

Valves done? ,

Chain correct tension

CCT in good condition?.

Wheel bearings in good nick?.

I did the Andorra to Bilbao in one day and didn't suffer any vibration problems bar the bolts at the top of the screen which were poorly tightened up anyway.

Interestingly my screen seems to get reverb around certain RPM. Did it before I had the DB screen fitted (the rubber washer things were fucked). I wonder if I need to tighten them.

interesting stuff. After about an hour or so of riding i get pins and needles in my pinky and ring finger and in the palm/wrist area immediately below them. Is this a vibration issue then?? Thinking

My left hand's middle finger goes totally white sometimes, apparently it is from holding onto something that vibrates a lot, and it can travel up your arm and is meant to be very painful if you get it bad.

Luckily it has only ever been my finger. Laughing

I'd be tempted to say you need to get your carbs balanced, I've never gotten whitefinger from any of my fours (and Ive owned quite a few).

Either that or try a grear above second......

My old cbr used to vibe like mad, tried all the suggested things in this thread, ended up buying foam grips and big heavy bar ends. Sorted.

The grips used to get soaked in the rain but meh, they were only about £3 so a new pair every week wouldn't break the bank.

Normally in 6th on the motorway/a-road.

80mph is around 11,000 rmp though... I felt sorry for the bike making it do that all the way back from Cornwall to Preston Laughing

Hi

4s are not that smooth. If you want a smooth one get one with a balance shaft.

However they are normally not that bad but quite often land up with one spot in the rev range where they do vibrate, and if you are unlucky this lands up at your cruising speed (my FZ750 is was 70mph).

Not certain, but on quite a few Yamahas the end weight is threaded and screws into the bar.

All the best

Keith

Turns out that the vibes of my CBR600 are down to 2 separate things I reckon. Firstly, the engine does vibrate more than other CBRs I've ridden because it has much higher mileage but there is a more significant vibration under engine braking or very light engine load which I had failed to distinguish from the "other" vibration. This is possibly the clutch basket or something as it largely disappears if I take the slack out of the clutch cable. Any ideas Keith?

Hi

Wouldn't expect taking the slack out of the cable to so much for vibration. Possibly if the clutch thrust bearing is on its way out, but suspect that would get worse taking the slack out.

All the best

Keith

To clarify; I mean if I'm cruising along the motorway on a light throttle and then apply very slight pressure to the clutch (not enough to cause it to slip) the vibration goes away. This is even more pronounced under engine braking.

Hi

Afraid I can think of nothing likely to cause that.

With the clutch lever released the springs in the clutch should be pushing everything together pretty firmly. Only things that would not be firmly pressed together (and so likely to vibrate more like this) would be the thrust bearing, and the clutch lever (at both ends).

All the best

Keith

Ok, thanks Keith. I think I'll have to take it apart and just have a look, it is quite strange really but I've got into the (bad) habit of riding along with my hand resting on the clutch lever which makes the bike feel much more bearable on long journeys.
