It should be reading something like 13-14v when healthy and fully charged.

To add an irrelevant question:

How can you have an SV 650 S Naked version? Isn't that a faired SV with the fairing ripped off?

Or do you mean an SV650 (sometimes called an SV650N)?

And, who cares what the top speed is? Rolling Eyes

He is helping lol What voltage does the battery return? Not a tricky question, and could help solve your problem!

Give the lectrics a good spray of WD40. Allow to drain and treat your bike to a tin of Holts Damp Start Autoplast. You can get it in most car places and Halfords.

I don't see how that could help. If his battery isn't producing the right voltage he needs a new battery. The connections etc aren't going to cause a low voltage across the battery.

Also WD40 is not the ideal thing to use. How about switch cleaner and then vaseline?

Possibly.

The first thing I would do is remove both battery terminals, clean them with switch cleaner, put vaseline on the terminals, charge the battery, re assemble it and try again.

Sounds like a blown/loose fuse to me. Possibly the ignition switch connector come loose ...

The fusebox is under the riders seat.

But two questions I am unclear on:-
Are the lights coming on with the ignition? (or is it totally dead)?
Does it turn over (just not fire)?

It is possible if the battery is knacked, then the headlight will work (as it doesn't draw much current) but the starter solenoid etc doesn't work.

If the battery is sulphated, I've heard that you can temporarily revive it by removing it from the bike, tipping it on its side onto a hard surface (such as a workbench etc). Don't drop it from a height, just push it over. Then right it, charge it and fit it to the bike with plenty of vaseline on the terminals. If this fixes the problem then I'd buy a new battery. Even if it doesn't it could still be the battery.

My point EXACTLY!!!!

No idea about the other thing you were on about, best ask on www.sv650.org - they know EVERYTHING there is to know about the sv...especially Rictus!!!

If the battery is suspected, the best thing to do is to eliminate it from the equation by 'jump leading' the bike from a healthy car battery .... if everything is then ok .. its new battery time.

I'm lost here, it wasnt doing it... but then it started doing it on a straight A road? Confused

This sounds like a connection issue at the back of the clock assy or short somewhere as is always with electrics.
