 |
|
Guys
The other day I forgot to take off my disk lock and tried to ride the bike. I managed to keep it up and limit the embarasment however now am having the following problem...
When the bike is moving and I press the front brake lever it just goes all the way in and doesnt stop the bike.
If I stop at the lights and keep pressing the front brake lever it hardens up as becomes normal and stops the bike from moving as normal.
I took off the caliper and cleaned it and examined all pipes for leaks etc and everything seems fine?
would appreciate any suggestions as I am riding on my back brakes only at the moment and am contstantly ready to dive off in case i need to do a emergency brake!
Its a kawasaki zx6r 1997 f3 model by the way ____________________ kawasaki Ninja-zx6r 1997 (f3) |

only things I can suggest is that either 'somehow' air got into the system, should be sorted if you bleed them, or, the caliper has been twisted creating a bigger gap to the disc.
When you build up the pressure does it remain constant if you keep the lever held in? ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

I thought of that as well Chris but would of expected the OP to mention the pulsing when braking.
It does sound like something is bent, got any photos, especially of the gap between the pads and disc.
Any way you can get the front wheel off the ground and give it a spin? ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

Thanks for all replies guys.
I will go home and put it on the front paddock stand and spin the wheel to check for a bent disc and i will also try what chr15 suggested about stopping and checking the front brakes when the lever is at its loosest.
100% sure there are no leaks also.
Will update you guys tomorrow of my findings.
Thanks again ____________________ kawasaki Ninja-zx6r 1997 (f3) |

Its a bent front disc. A fairly common result of a disc lock mishap!!
You can try and bend the old one back, but your chances of success are very slim!!
Its a new disc I am afraid ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |
