I had a similar thing on my RD530 and it turned out that the brake lever was adjusted so it would never quite 'release' the brake master cylinder. As you rode along the air in the system would expand due to heat and slowly put the front brake on until the front wheel completely locks.
Make sure there is enough freeplay in your brake lever, and I'd also suggest making sure that all of the pad springs and pins are present and in the correct way around.
