Hi folks, got some fluid and dust seals on order for my brake calipers on my gsxr750, as the seals are knackered and are showing a bit, just wondered if i have to prize the caliper apart to fit them or can it be done by just taking the pistons out, clean up and refitting seals etc

Understand will have to flush and re-bleed etc, and a good clean.

Thanks,
Baz. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Depends if you can split your calipers or not.

If you can then its the best way. Dont forget that you need to get the old pistons out somehow, usually using compressed air through the hose inlet at the caliper, or by leaving it all attached and pumping the lever to pop the pistons out (holding the pistons in place as they will prolly come out un-evenly) with the caliper off the discs. The latter can be messy though as the fluid will pour out once the pistons pop.

If you cant split the calipers then you use the same methods. Just make sure that two opposing pistons dont meet in the middle cos then you'll have a nightmare trying to prize them apart.

Other then that replacing seals is easy, just make sure everything is REALLY clean when putting the new ones back in. you dont wanna get any dirt in there

Regards

Thanks Slinn84, might have to do it the messy way, as i did clean them a few weeks ago, and noticed the seal was almost coming out on a few,was fine when i cleaned them up for a few days, then went back to being crappy again!

Could'nt even move the pistons out with compressed air! Had to re-fill the system and pump them out as far as poss!
