going to do an r1 front end, and an 03-05 r6 rear end.

Will also do an 05 gearbox swap but not at the moment, i want to do something to the engine but can find anything, cant find a big bore kit/ high lift cams. dont want to do anything to the engine that will make it unreliable, i.e lightened crank/ con rods etc. Might have a fuck around with the carbs once ive done everything else.

I wont be adding things like changeing brake discs or putting K+N filters on, simply because they are a 5 min. swap, that every r6 owner has done.

R1 front end:
forks are getting completley rebuilt, new springs and seals, all new bearings (wheels, steering), r1 yokes, r1 mudguard, r1 clip ons.

r6 swingarm:
got an 05 shock, swingarm, brake caliper.

getting 07 r6 wheels powder coated white, and the swingarm sandblasted back to alluminum.

the forks will make the bike more twitchy because of the rake angle, which will give a better turn in, it will help the brakeing with the increased strength in USD forks. The swingarm is a tad longer than the old r6 (1 link longer chain), which will help mid corner stability, but make the bike slightly slower to turn in, it also raises the ride hight, im going to keep the front ride hight the same which leaves the forks sticking out a couple 2" or so. undecided where to put the clip ons yet, above or below the tripple tree...

this has been tried and tested and it is an improvment to the old system, of course re doing r6 forks and putting a better rear shock will also improve an r6, but im also doing this for cosmetic reasons.

first picture i have:
https://i44.tinypic.com/353b5tk.jpg

will be adding pictures at each stage and doing a proper write up.

If you're using the same yokes (or triple tree as the yanks say) then you're not making a difference to the rake at all. Simply changing the forks wouldn't have an affect on this. Confused

Unless you can tell me how I'm talking a load of arse.

I was going to say the same thing big ham, all i can presume is that the USD's are slightly longer? so he thinks by raising the front end of the bike he thinks hes increasing rake?

Infact the only way you could change the rake was by having a different steerer tube angle, or different yokes which are angled slightly.

Since rake is measured as an angle so the length of the forks won't affect it, and with longer forks with it steer in the more leisurely fashion anyway, but this could be counteracted by pulling the forks through the yokes.....

If the forks are longer the rake angle will change, because it will pivot around the rear axle. Think of it in extremes shorter forks will make the rake angle closer to vertical. Longer forks will make the angle closer to horizontal.

But drop them through the yokes to keep the same geometry and it's all good.

I looked at doing this but it looks a right cunt to get the forks right. I've read about having to mix and match yokes etc from the R1 and R6 to stop the front wheel sitting in the belly pan 'V' piece. Seems a bit too much hassle. Would be so much easier to slot later R6 forks straight in. Would probably be lighter too.

You need the triple clamps from an R1 with the stem from an R6

And you work as a mechanic?

Then you'd know that changing the cams or fitting a big bore kit would be alot less reliable than fitting aftermarket con-rods or lightening the crank.

If you want to improve performance then, i'd start with finding a company which will be able to provide forged internals so that you can up the power more.

Lightening the crank and fly wheel should make the engine rev-up easier, which would be a good place to start.

He knows what hes doing, leave him to it. He likes learning the hard way like SV650's need oil.

Lightening interals seems an expensive place to starting, getting a set of performance cams of getting the current ones reground would.

The bike with standard internals should be fine for a bit of tuning maybe 10/20% increase.
