gear slipping

basically when im in 5 flat out and clutch in and shift into 6th it sometimes goes in then i go to let the clutch out like you would and it jumps outer gear again what is it?

Hi, first thing is to check your chain is at the correct tension. If thats ok then its likely to be worn dogs on the gear pinions, or the stopper arm isn't seating properly. Or if its a Honda then be firmer with your boot Wink

seems to be a common problem with aprilias, speicaly there AM6 engines.

i cant imagine the cogs being warn out since its only 5th and 6th gears, im sure the first 4 get more use than 5th and 6th.

its usualy down to dodgy engine re-builds from there garage rather than a shop doing it.

The AM6 engine is not "aprillias" it is made by Minarelli but used by many manufacturers, all of which probably use the same factory anyway.

It is most likely you haven't clicked it into gear hard enough, if it is not that then it is either you or previous owners ragging it, not using the clutch properly and generally fucking it up.

Very common problem. Havent come accross an AM6 engine that doesnt do it.

Down to people ragging them and doing shit gear changes etc.

Most of the AM6 engines do it because most of them have been owned by people who rape the shit out of their gearbox.

iv just bought a gilera sc125 basicaly a derbi gpr 125.

what where they like, reliable etc.. and majour problems with gilera?

build quality looks ok, but that means nothing if the previous owners were twats.


im keeping the exhaust stock, there like £300 anyway, will keep the carb stock but upjet a few sizes, you only need a fuse for the powervalve.

if you de-restrict the exhaust, airbox and put the fuse to work the powervalve, they make up 25bhp, so thats sound.


also, its still under warranty for 2 month or 14th month, not sure if you get 1 year or 2 year warranty with em.
