Hey;
Dad's finally driven a hard bargain with me in the fact I need to get a 125 bike for three months and if I don't drop it he'll spend some real cash on a sporty '6 for me.
My question is, best 125cc sports at the moment? Up to about £2k as I won't be keeping it very long with any luck.
Best being best handling/looking/most reliable for the price range. I was thinking either a Gilera SC125 or RS125 kind of thing. Will be for derestricting.
Also, what kind of speeds do they do restricted/derestricted?
Thanks! ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

if so i would choose to get a cheap old one that i can clean before i sell it and make a few £. But if your goign for the looks and want it to be fast for the next 3 months till you get a bigger bike, i sugest a 2 smoker. Faster than 4's and it dont really matter how much you thrash it, you wont be doing the rebuild on it.
RS125 their fast |
Going to be 3 months because my Dad is confident I'm going to drop my first bigger-than-50 bike, which I don't blame him for as I most probably am.
Take my A2 on said bike, derestrict then ride for 3 months. After which he'll get me a bigger bike. Peace of mind for him I guess.
Love the outlook. (: I was thinking RS125s as the engines are effectively my Kart engines so we know them inside out. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Wish my dad would give me 2k for a 125 then another wedge after 3 months.
Get a job and earn it.
So when can we expect claims of 130 from your 125 judging by your 50. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

Was looking at an SC125, £1400 as it is stolen/recovered, fine besides that though from quite a good shop we know.
Cheers.
@MarJay: It'll be restricted anyway, more than anything trying to get away from the sound of the two strokes, not a huge fan. If my Dad trusts me riding his bike then I think I'm plenty fine on a restricted 600 thanks. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

Ok then constructive.
Errm, skip the whole 125 get a bandit/hornet or older sports bike for around a grand. Keep the spare money in an ISA. Drop your grand bike, oh well its only a grand, drop your 3/4 grand bike then you will care.
Gets a year or 2's no claims, some decent riding experience. Then spend a bit more on your next bike. ____________________ www.southwestbikers.com

What I wanted to do to begin with but my Dad is odd like that. When I take my test on my birthday even if I pass I am waiting until mid-September to insure my new bike whatever it is due to having a years no-claims then.
Cheers, will try to convince him still but I doubt it'll happen. ____________________ "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul."

I recommend the hyosung GTR 125 for the best looking 125 and reliable . Dont get an RS I had a few of them. You shouldn't have trouble selling the GTR either.
Here is a pic of mine.

2k for that one but you can pick one up cheaper I hear. And before anyone says its jap shit, I have never heard a bad thing about them or read a bad review. ____________________ All the breast.

Hi
Would agree with your dad to stick with a 125 for a bit (and probably longer than 3 months).
The RS is not that unreliable, but it is a high maintenance bike and you don't really know how much of a muppet the previous owners were. While not really that closely related to Rotax kart engines, the 122 was actually sold for kart racing in some markets (not for the UK though I think).
Should be loads of 2nd hand bits around for the RS.
The NSR is cheaper and older, slightly slower but spares these days will not be as common 2nd hand.
The Gilera SC125 / GPR125 appears quite a bit more cheaply made than the RS. Rarer which will make 2nd hand parts harder to get.
All the best

CG125 .
Why spend 2k on a 3 month bike, spend £500 on a heap of shit, throw it down the road a few times, get settled.
Then buy a £4k 600 and kill yourself, hopefully you've insured yourself for more than £4500 so you dad should make a profit.
Anyway, CG125

I hate paying £150 quid license fee for the bbc to spend about half (gross exaggeration) of it on top gear, but then again if you gave a tick box to the halfwits that make up the majority of license payers along these lines:
[ ] Improved dramas, documentaries and Saturday night entertainment
[ ] Fast cars and exploding caravans
I think we know what the knuckle draggers would tick. Nothing good on BBC nowadays except QI and HIGNFY and they are low budget comparatively speaking. Sorry, off topic was that rant. What's this thread about? Erm...
Paulington: Get something with resale value, 3 months is nothing really so what if you don't have a shiny plastic covered monster. Have you got a full license yet or you going to be learning on the 125? Sports bikes aren't as easy to U-turn as a shitter. ____________________ Current Bikes: Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 (2020)

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper. |
