I took my yammy into streetbike for an MOT(monday)... and it failed(no big deal) Laughing on a sticking throttle cable. So I took it home and sorted it.. my own fault, i've had the head off etc doing a few jobs and put the throttle cable up on one of the clips which holds the loom in place... sorta forgot it was there. Rolling Eyes Rebooked it in for today... and it failed on something else which it had passed on on Monday?? Shocked this time the front caliper is sticking on.... Don't yah just hate MOT's.... Sad

Ok Saturday went round to another bike shop after work and bought the seals kits for the front caliper Very Happy Managed to mix and match a yamaha kit and a suzuki kit cus they didn't have both for mine. Laughing Stripped and cleaned the small piston... cleaned up and reassmbled. The larger piston was slightly more caked in what I believe to be "salt" in the grooves for the dust seal and the main seal. (Bike is ridden during the winter time.) So this was duly scraped out with a small flat screwdriver and cleaned up with a small brass brush. Cleaned up and reassembled. What a difference!! Shocked So the MOT'er made a good call Embarassed I took it back in yesterday and it sailed through after being fully tested again.

Sounds like your tester is a jobsworth. Mine only ever tests what it failed last time

If they didn't spot that fault before shouldn't they have? They shouldn't be failing it for new stuff?

If its a retest (at £10) they only look at what it failed for anyway.

You're tester is a jobsworth, as has been said.

Next time, go elsewhere. What is more worrying is that he didn't spot the second fault first time round, for that alone I'd be going somewhere else.

Thumbs Up

Where do you take yours Chris? I go to Bill Smiths now ER Williams has gone. But they're a pain in the arse MOT wise.

Brake test should have been carried out on the initial test. The re-test should NOT have required a brake test unless it previously failed on the brakes.

Once i've got the MOT done it won't be going back to streetbike, Sad though they arn't charging me for any of the retests Very Happy i'm happy with that. Just gotta rebuild my caliper with new piston seals, new brake fluid and might treat myself to a new brake hose one of those braided types by goodridge. Wink

I use Wilkinson's in Wrexham. He had a reputation for being a strict tester, but he knows I do my own repairs and he's now pretty relaxed with me - bearing in mind I test 3 bikes with him including the FJ rat. Cant wait to take the ratbike back there once I've finished the rework - see how he takes the mods Mr. Green

Near Gwersyllt, there's a place called Summerhill Motors - apparently he's supposed to be good - they do both cars & bikes and aren't interested in failing you bike just for the work.

PM'd you by the way.
