Hi i have been having a lot of problems with my gpz, it will turn over and actually fire but wont stay started, then if you try again it backfires and is kicking out white smoke, could the carb be running to lean? if so how do i adjust it?? and if its not not what could it be, it has new plugs, oil and filter and the carb has been cleaned?

cheers

Neil

Hi

When you say it won't stay started, do you mean if dies when you try and rev it? If so that sounds like what Charlottes GPZ500 used to do as it got water into the petrol tank, which then went into the carb when you switched to reserve. As such drain the carbs, make sure the petrol is not on reserve and try again (and when you get a chance drain the tank and get rid of the water in it).

All the best

Keith

Hi

Err, have you blocked off the vacuum line to the fuel tap? If not then it will be getting a load of air in after one of the carbs.

All the best

Keith

I have asked He Who Knows About This Stuff cos when you said "white smoke" I immediately thought you might have some diesel in your fuel somewhere.

However he says no, and he wants to know have you had the plug leads off cos it sounds like you might have them on the wrong way around. Worth a try?
