Hi,

Tried to Google this but with no real luck.

What is the under seat storage like on an SV650SK8 2008?
Arrow Is it easy and quick enough to get to? So that accessing it to retrieve a disc lock/chain when parking up is not a total pain?
Arrow What size is it, would storing an Almax III 0.7m chain and lock be possible?

Thanks

Hi there

It is easy to get to, key under the seat and off it comes, but there isn't much space. I will take a photo off mine tomorrow - I have a scottoiler and lotsa wires under mine which leaves just enought room for a hair brush.

An alarm seems to take up a lot of the space under a bike seat. Confused

Cheers, that would be great.

If you could stick something in the pick as a scale that would be really useful Thumbs Up

*fingers crossed*

OT, but...

I was startled at the amount of underseat storage on the Z...

with the pillion seat on I can fit 3 pot noodles and a chain, or, two big bars of chocolate, a 12 pack of sharwoods noodles, a box of condoms, a bottle of soy sauce, some tropicana (the small bottles you get), a can of coke and a pack of ciggies...

With the pillion seat cover on I reckon even more as it frees up a lot more vertical space!! Amazing.

If practical is your thing, blates get a z750 Razz

IMHO It's tiny!!

I have my disc lock and bungee, a Scottoiler and recharge socket - there is then just room for visor wipes and if I'm careful I can slide my pinlock inserts on the top!

https://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr344/Tonkatoo_2008/th_DSC00581.jpg

Useable is about 14cm open but I think you can just see my ABUS Disc Lock tucked into the left hand space.

https://i498.photobucket.com/albums/rr344/Tonkatoo_2008/th_DSC00582.jpg

.......and about 6cm deep clear in the main part, less where the disc lock is tucked.

Very easy to get to though!! Confused

HTH - it was a bit dark out in the garage!! Laughing

Thanks for those, it's going to be a tight fit! I think if I swap the rear seat for the seat cowl that might free up enough space

The space is indeed pathetically tiny, I've seen supersports with more room under the rear seat. Just getting my Scottoiler in was nightmarish and removed about a third of the remaining space.

A large part of the problem is the fact the fuse box sits right in the middle of the compartment, so bear that in mind if you're planning to try and cram something in on top of it under a cowling. You can just move the fusebox, as it does just slide off the two slats that hold it... but the wires don't let it go too far.

Given you'll be excommunicated from the SV brotherhood for fitting a top box Wink you might wanna invest in a nice backpack for your shopping.

When I first bought the bike I changed across to a seat cowl but have the seat for my very lovely luggage, so that it doesn't scratch the cowl. I'm sorry to say that I noticed no difference in space between the two and tend to have the tank-map bag on if I go out and about, as it's easier to pop stuff in that. Alternatively I use a small rucksack - the SV doesn't 'do' storage!

The ABUS lives in the bike but the chain I have is never going to fit Crying or Very sad I'm lucky as I have a garage, don't have to leave the bike often and when I do I use the disc lock.

I've got an earlier "curvy" SV and it has less storage space than my CBR125! Storage was not in the SV's design parameters.

If you wanna take the bike shopping, then a rucksack is useful, tho I've got a 10L Kriega pack and cargo net too.

Cheers for the extra pics, the bike I'm getting has a scottoiler fitted so I'll have to see how much space is left. Playing around with my 1.5m Almax makes me think it might just fit, but we'll have to see.

As for shopping I've got a 10L Krieger and numerous rucksacs so trips to Tescos shouldn't see too much of a problem

Not that I have the newer version sv, but I changed my undertray and have even less space under the back seat...I could maybe fit a disk lock, but if I go anywhere where I need a chain, I put in my under-sized tank bag.

I manage a rain suit, puncture gear, spare gloves, almax chain and lock, disc lock, small army type camping stove, set of dixies, and can fit in a full face helmet when I park. But then I'm not a real biker only a stoopid scooterist with no sense!!!!

No Chance of getting it to fit. The links are too big thus it's not flexible enough. Just use the bag that the almax should have come in and strap it to the pillion seat.

Yeah, mine's attached to that same bit of framework. I then managed to get the fusebox back onto its little slats to stop it rattling around.
